Classic excuse. "I was going way too fast, but it's not my fault"
Bullshit, if you'd gone slower the dog might not have been in your path at all.
Mr. EnglaishMan. Yeah, thats the way we say it.
Life is a matter of seconds. A heart beat away.
Try it some time. It might bring you back into

Well. Then cut the man some slack. Do you want him to go though what you did just because he hit a dog though no fault of his own. Or tried to dodge the dog and he got killed. Glad you made it though your ordeal. Yeah. I been down a time or two.

I might not have explaned it properly but let me do that now.
If the op's story and mine were the same I was the puppy. So no, I can not cut him any slack.
I know he did not set out to kill the dog and the dog should not have walked out in the road. But equally the op was riding too fast and the dog paid for that with it's life. There can not be any excuse i.m.o.

WOW. All I can say is OK. OK. Now I get it! Thank you.
So what if he had been riding at the posted speed limit.
Maybe the dog would have waited another 5 seconds before he ran into the road and wound up between the front and back tires sending the rider down.
Maybe the dog would have found a better hiding spot, spooked the rider and had him wind up in the yard on top of one of the kids.
Wouda, shouda, couda..............
If one thing had not gone like it did it might have been a whole lot worse.............
Get over it people.
I can't believe some of y'all are faulting the rider for someone's dog running into the road.
Do you really think this is the first time it ever ran into the road?
You think this is the first time it ever chased a car or bike?
Don't you think it's the owners fault for not doing something to stop it from happening?
Don't you think these people might have been a little rough around the edges?
Geesh.........Do you let your kids flip people off right in front of you?
Sounds like it was an accident waiting to happen to me.
I hit a big farm dog about three years ago with my 1996 Ultra. He is about 50 lbs. and about 12 yrs old at the time. The farm was divided in two by the road. I was doing about 45mph in a 55 mph zone with tall grass by the road side. Didn't even see him...BAM ! thought I hit a cement block in the road, keep it up and stopped. I looked back an this dog is laying in the road with blood all around it. The owners and kids came rushing out and the first words out of their mouths were "are you alright" and kept apologizing to me. I kept apologizing for hitting their dog. The dog hit my crash bar and fairing lower with foot peg all bent to hell. Long story short, the dog was only knocked out with a gash in his shoulder, The people wanted to pay for the damage to my bike ! I put the crash bar in my hydraulic press and straightened it out. A happy ending. Coulda, woulda, shoulda.....animals need their freedom too (not a PETA member). Chalked it all up to the chances we take by being bikers.
P.S. The dog wasn't wearing a helmet.
what? why reward bad behavior. i am an animal lover, but just because i love an animal doesn't mean i have to share it with the rest of the world. it was their job to protect it, and they failed.
good job on the incident report. yeah, let them pay. maybe they won't be so quick to let their animals run loose if it hurts them in their pocket.
really glad you kept it together and didn't go down.
Dude I would take a bullet for my dog. My dog will sit in the window of the house all day just waiting for me to return. I love this dog and all animals too. Loosing one or hurting one makes we want to drop.
However......those folks caused this. They had the
Responsibility of protecting that dog. While I'm not pleased it was hit I can't blame you. As dog owners they suck. Now I live in a city and maybe it's different on a farm or something but bottom line they caused this not you and did I say I LOVE dogs?

Reason: spelling
The original owner of my 56 FLH hit a farm dog doing 100 mph while chasing some buddies down the back roads of rural Illinois. Caught the dog right at the neck on the vertical part of the crashbar. Decapitated the dog and bent the crashbar. The bike wobbled just a bit and he kept chasing. I will never straighten this crashbar!
