That sucks but glad you didn't go down. Wouldn't know what to do if my 2 year old Weimador (94lbs) got away and was hit. It could have been much worse for you. Shame on the owner and kids for handling it the way they did.
yeah, i don't think the dog was out for a leisurely stroll when someone was riding too fast and came and ran him over.
and to use the 'well if he was driving 55, he wouldn't have been in that spot' is a lame excuse. you can apply that to any situation. if that guy had been driving 2 mph different either faster or slower, he would have got to that intersection at a different time and wouldn't have been t-boned by that texter......
nope, that dog don't hunt. they let their dog run loose and almost killed a motorcylcist. instead of being pissed at him, they should be kissing his ***!
Dude I would take a bullet for my dog. My dog will sit in the window of the house all day just waiting for me to return. I love this dog and all animals too. Loosing one or hurting one makes we want to drop.
However......those folks caused this. They had the
Responsibility of protecting that dog. While I'm not pleased it was hit I can't blame you. As dog owners they suck. Now I live in a city and maybe it's different on a farm or something but bottom line they caused this not you and did I say I LOVE dogs?
why are you quoting me? i'm not bashing the op, i agree with you and think it's entirely the dog owners fault
Classic excuse. "I was going way too fast, but it's not my fault"
Bullshit, if you'd gone slower the dog might not have been in your path at all.
OTOH he might've just as well missed the dog at 15 over but hit him at the limit. It's a crap shoot the minute you step into a car or onto a bike. For example, I was having trouble with my heated vest on the trip when I hit the dog, and messing with it along the way delayed me at least 15 minutes prior to the accident. Had I not had that trouble the dog would likely have been out of position to collide with me and I wouldn't be recounting the story of the accident. So should I blame Gerbings for causing the accident? I think not. **** happens.
I might not have explaned it properly but let me do that now.
If the op's story and mine were the same I was the puppy. So no, I can not cut him any slack.
I know he did not set out to kill the dog and the dog should not have walked out in the road. But equally the op was riding too fast and the dog paid for that with it's life. There can not be any excuse i.m.o.
The dog paid with its life because of an irresponsible pet owner. I'm just glad it wasn't the OP that payed with his life. Pets don't belong on loose public roads period! Its a matter of public safety. Next time your on a 55mph highway try and keep it below 60. Thats a matter of public safety as well.
If this was on Judge Judy, the name of the case would have been "Speedy Gonzales" vs "Lucky the dog"......ruled as negligence on both partys, and thrown the case out. Then fined her court room officer for inattentiveness in court.
Op....
Glad ya kept it upright. After the dog owners actions, you did the right thing with the report. I'd have them pay for any damages sustained, then throw in a really nice detail.
Those raggin' on him...
"I'd take a bullet fer my mutt?!"
"Better be glad ya didn't run my Rover over, I'd have beat your eyeballs out!"
With the way the "BADAZZ KEYBOARD COMMANDOS" are actin'.... you'd think it was the dead of winter.
Y'all need to get out and ride... Oh, and be sure to put your bike in the ditch when somebody's "Fee Fee" runs out in the road!
Sorry to hear. I have two labs and I would die if one got hit. Therefore I am paranoid about letting them get close to a street, even in front of the house on a 25MPH street.
Its the owners responsibility to control the dog and teach it to stay away from streets. Dogs don't know unless they are trained. That owner cost a life and nearly a second one - you. They don't need another dog! Don't feel sorry for them.
Thats it in a nutshell, if you love it you need to protect it or dont cry about it if someone runs it over. Same with kids, the parents whine and moan when the punk acts like a thug and get themselves shot, where the hell were you up to that point. They are the first ones standing up in court covering up their guilt with fist shaking....gim me a break......ok Im done, but its the same thing and hope that's not what happens with the idiot owners of the dog.
