If you had been going 120 you would have missed him. Dog gone. 2 pretty damn fast dogs one doing 70 and the other 100.Death of a pet is hard.Almost like losing a Harley.

To the OP, glad you're OK.... To those critizing him for going too fast or not wiping his *** the proper way, get real. A pet owner has the responsibility to make sure that animal acts (and is treated) properly. To let an animal roam loose next to a high speed roadway is irresponsible. ANd for the OP to be treated the was he was when he tried to apologize is just plain wrong. If it was me I'd get a good motorcycle attorney and sue the dog's owner to pay for the damages just to send a message.

Perhaps you tree-hugging animal kissers need to go to the PITA blog and post there. I'm sure they'll appreciate you joining in sitting around a campfire singing Kumbuya!!

100% the pet owners fault.

Speed had absolutely nothing to do with it. Once you mention speed the "higher than thou's" on forums like this will start bashing, it's the laws of the internet

cheers

I'm glad that the OP was not hurt. I'm sorry for the dog and his family. I believe that the dog owner should pay for damages to the OP's bike.

Altogether, a shitty situation for everyone involved.

Your reaction time is always better at a slower speed, if you had been within the limit of the road, you may have avoided the accident all together. You were in the wrong, period.
Him going 70mph on a motorcycle still has a shorter braking time than even an average sized car going 55mph... So the dog would have gotten hit by any 4-wheeled vehicle coming at 55mph. Dogs aren't supposed to be on roadways for a reason, and the owner should be at least nice to the guy who could have died or been seriously injured, and took damage to his vehicle. I seriously doubt the dog owner had any clue about the speed of the motorcycle. If the kids are giving you the bird, that tells you a lot right there....
