2007 96" twin cam in a street glide. 15,000 miles. For some reason and completely random I get a high idle coming off highway speeds stopping for a corner or whatever. It will idle around 2200 rpm. If i flick the throttle it will stay even higher around 2300 rpm. If I shut it off or sit in first or neutral it will eventually right itself after 20 seconds or so. It doesn't do it everytime. Matter of fact maybe once out of 30 times.
I'm wondering if there isn't a sensor that keeps rpm up at higher speeds that aids in shifting and this sensor isn't getting the message that it should be idling.
I hope this makes sense. Anyone had this issue? Any thoughts?
am having a similar problem, after a highway run for ten miles or so my idle will sit at 13 or 14 hundred for a while then settle down, mine does it all the time though.
Noticed this on my 08 Ultra during rolling thunder but went over 2k while hot and stayed that way until cooled down on the highway later on. Also did it again a couple weeks ago while hot near the blue ridge parkway.
I also thought some kind of sensor but not sure what the solution might be. I am planning to spray some cleaner and dielectric grease on the PCV and the sensor behind the air cleaner but haven't had time yet.

15,000 on a 2007, that is low miles. Maybe throttle cables need some lube or adjustment?
2008 has wires not cables and accidental roll forward on the throttle while turning off bike would mess the idle up. Four cycles of turning on the bike in run mode, wait till the fuel pump stopped and power off at the ignition would reset the idle.
A friend experienced this. It turned out to be the small adjustment screw in the mouth of the throttle body. It had come loose. The screw has a rubber cover over it.
I have a 2007 Roadking - this problem happens when I am in parade mode during the summer - PGR, you have to go slow during escorts, that is when it happens to me. I have to turn off/turn on the bike to get it back to normal. Doesn't sound like an adjustment ... more like a program issue to me... but what do I know!
Thanks for replys. I'll trying cleaning the valve mentioned. I bought the 2007 last year with 7500 miles on it. I bought a service manual and went through everything including lubing the cables and readjusting just to be sure. its random it what is odd. It may happen when it is hot as others have said. I'll report back.
