If you want to rely on the dealer to take yours in trade and sell you the next bike then you'll be helping his bottom line.
not yours
smart money says take the time to find the right next bike for you from a private party- and sell your bike privately to realize the best prices

It happens...............
The only benefit I can see from here is the savings on sales tax. Of course you would be better off selling your current ride, but with the economy, how many people are walking around with the cash............
My thinking is for you to sell your 2012, you will have to discount the bike considerably, and don't think it would be worth the effort/hassle.
If your mind is made up, then trade it for the bike you really want, because in the end, thats all that matters!
Like Bruce00 said "f your mind is made up, then trade it for the bike you really want, because in the end, thats all that matters!" and by the way good looking Road Glide Bruce00.
Still open for advice and thanks to all those who have responded!!!!!!!!!!
Your probaly only looking at 11/12 for trade in on your bike and if you go with a RG or SG with abs/security your looking at 22k. So go in with a number in your head like 8k OTD. Remember be prepaired to walk out. As much as you want the one on the floor and they tell you "the best price is the one we have" instead of having to locate the color and option one you want its not the case. Both my dealers told me that. But after dealing with both for a week dealer 2 (the bike i bought) was not on there floor but at another dealer 4 hrs away. I did agree to pay the extra 300 bucks for that delivery fee.............................
Oh and BRUCE00 i also like that road glide. Love that black and orange. Before i bought mine i was looking at the BBP Road GLide they had on the floor. For me i just couldnt get over that shark nose. They say they handle much better than the street glide beacuse of the frame mounted fairing. I will tell you this. I have no issues with handling with the fork mounted fairing on my Street Glide. Non the less, sweet Road Glide

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
I ride the NJ Turnpike every day and stick to the truck side, so I can tell you my RG is butter smooth passing 18 wheelers @ 80-85.
Some very good advice from pontiac69.
I too traded when I bought my RG. I had a number ($5K) that I was willing to pay. Worked every dealer in a 150 mile radius. I was unsure if I was gonna get a RG or a SG. I ended up renting both bikes for a weekend apiece before I decided on the RG. I also removed every accessory I bought that could be removed
When I walked into a dealer I had my checkbook and title to my 06 RK. Nobody had an Mirage Orange RG w/ABS, so the bike had to be ordered.
Just remember one thing hd2012, you have the economy on your side, theres alot of tire kickin but fewer peeps throwing down the coins to walk out with a new scoot.
The day of my trade
And yeah, I got a thing for Bassani exhaust
