Should have given more info Mike, this is for a scoot that does not have any 12V lighter connections in place so need a complete device that connects to a switched live supply.
Prefer to go direct to USB rather than building a Christmas tree of plugs and adaptors
Griffin PowerJolt SE Car Charger for iPhone and iPod, 1 Amp. Available on amazon.co.uk right now for Ł9.79, mate.
1 amp is quick carge for iPhone, and it's a short charger so doesn't hit tank when used in cigar socket on fairing. Curly wire doesn't get in the way either. Also long enough for use in pannier if you've got an auxiliary socket rigged.
I use my iPhone for sat nav and tunes, and I've used this for a year without dramas. If you want a generic USB type charger, just make sure the output is at least 0.75 amp if you want to charge iPhone or iPad.

cut the plug off and wired it to the "run" light circuit. my stuff in the T/P charges as I run down the road- and as noted above I use the isimple to charge and get audio to my stereo- and my ipod touch is mounted where I can see and use the display

My normal bike is a Ultra Limited, but I have bought a VTX in the US for touring around for a couple of weeks each year. I am well sorted with the Limited, easy when you have the 12v output in place already
your SG doesn't have a lighter socket? ( next you are gonna tell me it doesn't run on diesel)

This is best explained over a pint, I am in your neck of the woods end of August, kicking off in Tucson and heading over to Atlanta - taking a couple of weeks
You can go to about any auto parts store and get most of what you'll need to power up any accessory....or contact this company http://www.powerlet.com/products
They have about anything and their stuff is top of the line...
