If you remove the spring, can you thread the guide pin or slide a threaded tube over it to secure all parts?

Just installed one on my '09. Ran them on a couple other bikes with good results. The stock shoe had little wear @ 35k but the chain did seem tight? Install pretty straight forward. Ended up with 5/16 without shims. Figure the shoe will wear to the rollers and be right at 3/8. Chain doesn't seem as tight as stock. Hoping it will save primary bearing...
