Okay boys and girls, after putting much thought in this I feel like I have to share this story. Way back when my daughter was born (24 years ago) I sold my rice burner to buy baby neccesities. I immediately started saving money and in the spring of '88 was able to purchase a used 1980 Yamaha 850. It was sold the following spring after my son was bornthat October. You got it, needed the cash.Bikes went on the back burner for many years, tuitions, wife only working part time, etc etc etc.
Over the past five years, I have visited every cycle dealership within a 30 mile radius of downtown Chicago. I always wanted an Electric Glide. Hell, I learned to ride on my dad's 1970 black and white EC with an over sized saddle. In thesummer of '06, I decided hell or high water I was buying a bike. But I always came up with an excuse Harley's are too expensive, but I could just "settle" for a rice burning wannabe, even tho it was much cheaper. I even put a deposit on a EG Standard and called that same night to back out. I was going to wait for spring.
Christmas eve and the whole family is at my brother's. He tells me he bought a new ATV and wants to show me. Out we go to the garage.....opens the overhead.....there sits a '07 Ultra in Black Cherry. I turn to my brother and say " you f**k, you got a bagger." It's then I see the sign on the Ultra, my wife, kids and the whole crew. My better half tells me she knew I'd come up with another excuse and she was tired of me looking like a lost puppy. My daughter then relates that the ol' wife was the hit of the place, received marriage proposals, and was asked to call other wives. Talk about a lucky man.................
I've put over 200 miles on her before this snow and cold hit. I cannot wait for the spring. Sometimes, I just out and stare at it. Well, sorry for taking up your time, but I had to brag...
