I have a 2001 EG Ultra with just over 50k miles on it. Recently, it seems when it has warmed up, I have a 50/50 chance of the bike not slipping into 2d gear under normal acceleration. All the other shifts are smooth and effortless, but from 1st to second ... I was thinking it was me, my boot heel not making the shifter function well. But I am almost convinced something is amiss in the gear box. Any ideas would be appreciated.
1st check is primary fluid, primary chain tensioner ( and tensioner- the hayden m6 is a good addition to these bikes)- and finally clutch adjustment
at 50 k your tensioner shoe may be grooved or cracked- I had one go at about 42,000 ...but another at 60 K was fine- still replaced 'em both with the m6.
check that the shifter does not contact the floorboard at the heel, preventing a clean upshift
