Well, here is what the contract says, word for word:
"WE will pay for COSTS to repair or replace the original equipment or like replacement tires and/or wheels of YOUR MOTORCYCLE that fail due to contact with a road hazard (pothole or debris on the road surface such as nail, rock, or tree limb). YOU do not have to pay the DEDUCTIBLE under this coverage. Pickup, rental, and travel lodging benefits apply to covered tire and wheel claims. Exclusions to this coverage include; normal wear, damage due to collision (except road hazards as described above), overloading, dry rot, fire, flood, vandalism, acts of God; abnormal tire wear, failures of tires or wheels when tires have less than 3/32 of an inch of tread."
So I'm thinking this will be covered unless they try to claim it was vandalism due to the odd way the nail is in it.
I just hope they don't try to stick it to me on the drive belt because that is never covered under any circumstances.
But I bought the tire online, and had an indy install it. I may be screwed.
I guess we see things differently. Didn't you say your daughter was with you? After seeing the source of the noise, I'd say you're damn-lucky, not screwed. The price of that tire is a whole lot less than what the bill could have been, if the problem had been anything that you first thought it may have been. Not to mention that you made it home... SAFELY.

You're right, we were very lucky in that respect. I'm pretty sure we picked up the nail as we were pulling into the convenience store. Just prior to that, we were doing 80 mph down the turnpike. And with there being a tube in there, it could have been disastrous.
Thanks for the replies guys. First thing I'm going to do tomorrow is a thorough inspection of the drive belt. I hope that a rock in it is all it is, but at the same time hope there isn't any damage to the belt. As mentioned, those are pretty darn expensive to replace.
If I can't find anything there, then it's off to the dealership on Tuesday.
Will you pulling stuff apart void that warranty you got? Don't do anything that creates a grey area for the dealer to come back and say something like; 'the seal was broken so this is not covered.' Personally I wouldn't touch anything and let that money you paid do the work.
I would also call them before you drove it in and give them the opportunity to pick it up. That way, if anything bad happens to you do to mechanical failure, you were driving based on dealers advice. Don't tell them you drove it 20 miles after noticing the noise either. Tell them you took it out of your driveway and pushed it back in. Don't leave them any wiggle room, ffs.

3illy,
Maybe you should read the entire thread before commenting.....
I am glad you found the problem. Since you already have a photo of the nail in the tire. I WOULD make sure you have it on hand when you go to the dealer.
Better yet, I would trailer the bike in if possible. Unless you have a really good dealer, they might try and deny, like others have said.
Also, looks like your belt maybe short lived. I would really keep an eye on that belt. The nail took some bites on the inner side of the belt that's for sure.
Glad you and your daughter made it home safe, keeping the speed slow really saved your azz. If you were going faster, it could of been a different story.
That's one hell of nail!
(Oh yeah, the MoCo is on their 3rd upgrade for the SE Comp. Even the 11' have had to be replaced.)
