Bike finally broke.
$59 and change for rear brake pads. That is all. Tire and wheel coverage is really good! No hassle at all.
There's what was causing the clacking noise. And this is AFTER I bent it down. It was sticking straight out, and kind of forward.

And the inside edge of the belt is a little chewed up, but not real bad. And this tire only had about 1,000 miles on it. Guess we'll find out tomorrow how good that H-D tire/wheel warranty is. But I bought the tire online, and had an indy install it. I may be screwed.
I was reading this post hoping that it was not a systemic problem that my bike might suffer next, since I have about the same miles on mine as you do on yours. Since the repair worked out so well for you, I guess it's OK for me to say that I'm glad it was a nail in the tire rather than some of the other things people were suggesting it might be.
Ride safe!
Got up this morning and called the dealer. Explained the issue, but their driver had a full day and would not be able to pick up the bike until late this afternoon. So they sent a wrecker for it, on their dime. $150 worth. (they found out later when calling in the warranty claim that the tow would be covered also).
We we get there, and everyone is standing around in total awe. They couldn't believe the tire still had air in it.
To make a long story short. They had a Michelin Commander II in my size (their price was more than I paid for it online of course), and saved it for me. Wrecker showed up and I helped the guy load it and then rode with him to the dealership. They took the bike in and did all the work, AND replaced my rear brake pads (they were getting a little thin).
Total cost to me? $59.63 for the new pads. I got the new tire, tube, and labor for both the tire and brake job free. (well, as free as it can get when you buy an extended warranty with tire and wheel coverage).
Just got home a little while ago. If I would have had to pay for all that, it would have been in the $600.00 range.
And two other little benefits.... I got to hear my bike as a pedestrian for the first time and it sounds awesome with the V&H Monster Rounds (windshield kicks so much motor noise back at the rider), and they detailed it for me too. It was really dirty after that ride Sunday.

Great to hear good dealer stories..........!!
I don't think much of the San Diego area dealers. Haven't liked them much for years. I now drive 60 miles to use a dealer that treats me well.
I recently drove from NY to San Diego and dealt with 3 dealerships along the way. They were awesome to deal with. Made me wish I had one of them in my area.
I now know they are out there somewhere..... glad you found one!
