I've read all the previous threads about blow by but have yet to find an answer to my problem. I'd appreciate any help I could get. I have an '05 Ultra with a 95" kit. I had no problems for a year then blow by appeared. It's been to the local HD dealer 3 times now. They've had me run it half a quart low, didn't help. They put on the HD Heavy Breather, didn't help. This last time they went nuts and replaced the piston, rings, cylinder, all the seals, gaskets and O rings on the rear cylinder. The front cylinder got new umbrella valves and I still have blow by.
My bike has been in the shop five of the last eight weeks. I really dont think the shop knows what else to do. If you have any ideas I'd love to hear them.
I had the same problems on my 08 FLHX, I tried everything, no luck!. Then, this past winter I changed my breather and intake to the Vance and Hines V02 Drak. I have put on 20K this past season so far, NOT one drop of blow by. Just my experience.
Nope, the oil just smells like oil. As for the pistons and rings I was told they were scored and that I had a compression leak which was allowing oil to gather in the crank case. I've only noticed the blow by on hot days after going more than 100 miles.
Let me preface this by saying that I never had carry over to the point of oil dripping from my air cleaner, but I did have enough that a little oil would pool inside the air cleaner.
Here's what worked for me... Re-routing the breather ports in the air cleaner backing plate directly into the throttle body. My air cleaner has been dry as a bone ever since I did this mod.
hmmm- worn rings will USUALLY demonstrate burning oil ( white smoke) on acceleration ( working on motors 101)

When rings start to wear, the pressure in combustion chamber will force air past the rings, this air has to escape somewhere and that is thru the crankcase breathers into the air cleaner bringing oil vapor with it resulting in excessive oil drip from air cleaner. A leakdown test will determine if out of spec. Excessively worn rings will allow oil past and burn - have seen cured several of this problem by honing cylinders and replacing rings..
