some of us ( me) find that a blue/white bulb changes contrast in things seen at night, I prefer a yellow/white light--- i dunno why, I just see better with it.
the blue/white bulb does give better daytime visibility to other traffic though
many of us are using silverstar bulbs at your local auto parts store- these usually come in a 2 pak, you can throw the spare on the saddlebag.
These sylvania or phillips bulbs will usually have acahrt on the back showing 'coverage', light output, but also expected life.
I came from Goldwings and did a LOT of riding at night at speed. A Goldwing runs a 45/45 watt bulb and the reflecter is what made it produce the proper light output. I am one to preach don't out run your headlights. It did through out a lot of light better than my trucks. But I got bored with it and switched to the FLHTK, well I could the lights suck I could not see any further than just in front the bike. Anything over 40 mph I was driving blind. Changed to this bulb and I now feel safe up to 55-60 mph. Looking at going to LED but that big money and holding off for the moment. Is it worth the $25, a little high but it will make you safer and thats worth it.
Years ago I was talked into putting 55/100 and melted the headlight wires, learned lesson.
