Just installed the 2010 Ultra low boy seat on my 09 SG. Less than a 100 miles on it, now the engine is going into a fast idle, around 1500 RPM but it is intermittent? I read somewhere about a problem with seat pans rubbing ECM but can't remember where?
Already changed pins to servo motor that was giving limp code, so I don't think that's the problem? Any thoughts?
Did you pull the seat back off and test the bike again?
Something had to happen when you put it on.
If you take it off does it still seem to idle high?
That seems like an odd thing to happen for installing a seat.
No. I haven't had time to do that yet, but I read somewhere about seat pan rubbing causing some type of problem? Thing is it is intermittent. Did it one time yesterday, then again this morning? I will pull it off tonight and check? I know the ultra has saddlebag guards that helps hold up the seat. Hope I don't have to buy them now for the SG!
Thanks.
with your RIGHT hand- turn on ign ( run switch on)
wait until fuel pump stops
turn off
repeat 4 more times
try to get in the habit of using your right hand to turn off ign. ( that way it cannot give spurious throttle position input- throttle will be at correct "Zero" position) rather than using the kill switch.
idle will often be at 1300 or so on start up and should settle at 1000 in a few minutes depending on temps
the SG should have rubber bumpers where the rear crash guards attached on the ultras. these help keep the seat off of the frame and scuffing the rear fender.
If yours does not have the kit, check with the dealer, I think they were doing a free retrofit, if not get some rubber stick on furniture feets at home depot ( which is what I did) I use 4 of the same on the bottom of my saddlebags so that I don't have to look for a soft place to set them down when I take them off
I not sure when you say ign? The kill switch I do not use since I installed a TTS in Daytona the tech told me to always use ign switch? So I don't think that's a problem? The pads you mentioned from dealer. Does these mount to the frame, or the seat? I will check with them tomorrow. Could the seat be pressing the ECM connector causing the fast idle?
Thanks for ur info!
ign switch, you know the big thing--- try cycling that anyways.
alot of us H-D guys are used to thumbing the kill switch, which can cause the ecm to get spurious throttle input as our right hand is still on the grip and may move it. 9 and that has been my problem, still working on un-learning an old habit
the bumpers mount on the frame
I do not use a piggy back tuner or TTS so I cannot speak to seat pressing on it
an easy way to check clearance is to use modeling clay or play doh, put a sheet of paper on the ecm, then the clay, then another sheet of paper. ( paper keeps it clean)
