overheard dealer selling new tires to a customer last weekend. All the expected pitches, such as specifically designed for Harley's and matches original equipment. The customer wasn't quite sold until the service manager looked him square in the eye and stated that his tires were fresh off the production line. The online stores sell much older dated tires.......
So, can some of you report how old your new tires were when you received them.

As fresh as can be. I'd rather buy tires from Jake Wilson or Dennis Kirk or swmototires.com who sell 000s of tires every month than from a HD dealer who's lucky to sell 5 sets in the same period, if that.
Oh and how could American Elites or Michelin Commanders not be fresh? These tires have just been launched on the market.
Typical BS from a Service Manager who doesn't know sh*t from Shinola.

Just got a Michelin Commander II 130/90-16 front from Jake Wilson. Ordered it 9/3/12 and got it 9/7/12.
The date code on the tire after the DOT is 1612. So that tire was manufactuered in the 16th week of 2012. Which means it was made end of April first of May 2012 and I got it first of September 2012. So roughly 4/5 months.
Hell the OEM tires that orignally came on my 07 Ultra from the factory. The bike was built in April 07, the date code on those tires was like 10 months prior to build date.
I have a 09 ultra classic, Called the dealer today to see how much to replace the dunlop 407 rear with another one, almost dropped the phone when I heard 425.00$ !! OMG what are they makin tires out of today!!Are there a good replacement tire for the 180 that would be a good fit for my rim and that would be a long life tire for touring,no darksides please!!Thanks Eric

Hey fellas, been doing some research on new tires for an 06 FLHTPI and although i have heard quite a few people drool over Metzelers in the past; having read quite a few reviews online, i am not a 100% convinced i'd want to go with that manufacturer. Also heard big quality differences between German and Brazilian-manufactured Metzelers (bad feedback regarding Tires made in Brazil). Also, some folks say they aint the greatest in wet weather; any first-hand experinces? Any additional input on this specific brand, as well as a good wet/dry tires by another manufacturer? Looking to keep stock sizes for now.
