You got it, more or less. If you're going with a FuelPak, consider a common combo used by V&H. I would suggest going with a true tuner (Power Commander V, Power Vision, Thundermax, etc) rather than a FuelPak for a bit more flexibility.
Agreed,If you are going with V&H all the way then the Fuelpak should be OK for just Stage 1 mods.
Other tuners will be more flexible for future mods and you can have control of the map.
You can do the work yourself, just make sure you have a HD Service Manual.
Take your time,It's fun to work on your bike and gives you a great feeling of CAN DO!!!
I'd replace the Fuel Pak with the new Fuel Moto Dynojet Micro Tuner. Much easier to tune to your specific set-up. V&H is limited to what they have created maps for. It is a little cheaper than the Fuel Pak too.
if you are going to take the exhaust off you might as well spend a little more and put cams in it...cams are pretty easy to install, I did it and used the original push rods to make it more reliable and save some money ....with the exhaust already off the cams only take about 2 hours to install even with opening the valve covers and loosening the rocker arms...then the bike will really come alive...
