Default Blatant Theft?

I was talking to dealer today about a used 2012 CVO Ultra, they were asking 42K CDN for it.. The dealer mentioned it had 18k kilometers plus over 5K in upgrades. I said for that price I would rather buy new and I also said I thought the price of the upgrades was normally excluded from used bikes. Their response "Extras do not count when you are trading in but they count when you sell the bike" - exact words. Blatant theft or what! You gotta give them credit for being honest though.

Not theft if you GIVE them the money.
For that amount of money (at least in U.S. dollars) you can buy a new 2013, unless you jus happen to like that particular bike.

We all should know that. I would not call it theft or stealerships. Nobody is forced to buy from them or sell to them.

If you give them your $ it's not theft. Are they holding a gun to your head? As far as the extras, that's common - they are in business to make a profit.

Yup...Welcome to Canada.
Here is a bike i spotted at Thiels in Ohio. Stopped there to load up on oil/filters and stuff, on the way to the football game in columbus.

2012 CVO FLHTCUSE7 for $35,999.00 with 1580 miles on it
Since it's used, bringing it to canada should not be a issue...

That's the reason I save my stock parts and put them back on if I'm going to trade a bike, the dealer won't give you anything for trading, but they will charge whoever they sell the bike to, same thing with auto dealers.

as long as willing buyers show up, they'll keep taking the money.

so it's not theft- it's "responding to market demands"

Well said, and we all understand how it works. It just don't make any sense that canadian prices on bikes and cars are thousands more then US prices. Especially as of the last 18 month, where the canadian dollar is at par and at times even better then the US dollar. Everything US made is duty-exempt, yet they keep charging us as if we still had to pay 1.40 for one of your dollars.
Somebody here in the great white north is making more per bike sale then dealers on your side of the border make. Besides that, many dealers in the US are more likely to negotiate. Try that up here.....
Therefore just about everything i buy for the bike and other things, i buy on my frequent trips to the US.
