Default Winter Storage

Just curious those of you in the northern part of the country. Do you store your bike at home, or store at a dealer, or where? I decided to store mine at a local dealer for the winter. Cost is $250 for the winter and it will be in a warehouse kept at 65F connected to a battery tender and started at least every other week and ran for 10-15 minutes. It will also be kept on plywood, not concrete and covered with a breathable tarp. Included is a spring detailing to clean it up. I may also to have the dealer install some items that I've been looking at, specifically the HD alarm system, and have them look at the HK radio that is starting to give me trouble (covered by ESP).

I just want to know if I get visitation rights....

I dont think the dealer starts it every other week, its time consuming and a bad practice anyway.

Change the oil, put stabil in the tank, attach battery tender, cover it and leave it in the garage and mourn the loss until spring.

However, in SE Michigan, I've ridden in every month since Feb of 2011, so its never really "up" for the winter.

I would have gotten a January 2011 ride in but I was up north for new years when it was warm.

He in PA we have local Polar Bear rides in the winter, so my bike stays at home with me.

My riding season is going to be coming to an end shortly. By mid October I may be done until late April. I stabil the tank, change the fluid and pull the battery to bring inside and put on a tender. Our main garage houses the two trucks, so the bike has to stay out in the unheated shop with the four wheelers. I cover it and let it hibernate until spring.

I stored mine at the dealer when it was new in 2008. Since then I have just kept it at home in the garage with a battery tender and a cover. If the dealer has the same policy as in the past they would bring you the bike once during the storage period and if you wanted it again you had to go get it and if I remember correctly that full filled their end of the storage contract. As Keith spoke about there are going to be days that you can ride and if your bike is at a dealer you will have wished that you still had it. In the winter of 2008-09 there were many a days that I wished I had it so I decided then to never store it again.

I'm trying to figure out what to do myself. If this winter is as mild as last winter, I'll want it home. My problem is that if the bike is in the garage, my SUV can't be (wife's car gets precedence ). If I want a warm garaged car all winter, I have to store the bike.

I have one local dealer that will store it for $300 for the winter. That includes a detail, and it's kept on a battery tender. No in/out though, once you pick it up, you keep it. They also offer the option of free storage if you spend $600 parts/labor with them. I need a 20k service, I have a set of HogTunes speakers I need to install, and I am considering the garage door opener that uses your high beam switch. Add all that up and I'd be close to the $600, if not there. So that is one option.

Another dealer is $50/month. They offer free storage if you buy $400 in HD parts and have them install them (labor doesn't count towards the $400, just parts), but I'm not buying that much in parts no matter what.

A third option is an Indy place that is $35/month, but it's 45 minutes from home and I don't know about in/out yet.

Right now I'm sticking my head in the sand and hoping I have another 6 weeks or so to decide.....

Verbal, that avatar pic is hilarious. I've lived here (sadly) for decades, never really realized that Big Beaver road is indeed exit 69 off I75.

Here's where my ride sits over winter hibernation...FREE.

Well, I do pay for the electricity to run the tender, and the J&S jack was $360, and the HD cover was $75, and the fluids/service for storage was $50...man - this crap adds up fast!
