I posted before about 2011 Ultra that seems to really heat up, been thinking, I put Vance & Hines rounds on and did nothing else could this be creating part of my heat problem? Would putting the headers on help with heat & performance? Thanks
Depends on what your source of heat is that you're concerned about. If you're talking about the standard flamer thrower that heats your right leg and foot (aka the catalytic converter), then yes, a decatted or aftermarket head pipe will cool that off.
I don't think your V&H rounds did anything to CAUSE more heat than was already there.
Slip ons can cause engine to run leaner but doubt this will make noticeable difference in heat experienced. Adding headers without cat, more open air cleaner, tuner to richen mixture, heat shield if you don't have one, this is what most are doing to address heat issue. If you do these mods you will want tuned, either a tuner or have flashed.
Lot's of threads here on this forum about ways to reduce the "heat" coming off the big HD v-twins. Headers, pipes, tuner, big flow air breather, oil coolers, heat shields, parade fans, etc.
I didn't reduce heat in my bike until I put dresser duals up front and got rid of the cat......slip ons will not do that......good luck...oh and yes....it's still a LOT hotter than my water cooled KTM 990 ADV....on hot summer days that's my go to ride....
last week I had a Rush Ceramic coated in/out header installed along with the rest of a stage 1 and a dyno tune and I am thrilled. Rush claims up to a 300deg drop in temp. I can tell you that the heat issue is non-existent on my bike. Added bonus is that is sounds awesome and runs even better.
I put Vance & Hines Dresser Duals on my bike with dual slash slip-ons. No cat means it runs better with less heat. Needed a SERT and a high flow air cleaner to complete the pkg. The mods are necessity on a new Harley in my opinion.

Just put on de-catted headpipe last week. Made a noticable difference in heat. I got mine for $145.00 on eBay, here is the link.
