I thought about a trip for Bike week from NY to Daytona... after calcuating gas, food and lodging , gas being the big number here I come to think its not woth it... I am sure alot of people are being hit with this and the Town and vendors will feel it...

Up until a few years ago I used to trailer from NH to Daytona for Bike Week. I was getting 9 mpg and it just became too expensive a gas bill. Always loved getting away from the cold and snow. We replaced Daytona with Myrtle Beach and enjoyed that until MB went crazy. Damn, I miss the Blue Ridge Pkwy. Now we are down to weekend getaways.

Don't forget.....Daytona is near St Augustine (oldest city in America)....Cape Canaveral... Many Many samll towns worth exploring. You can ride from the Beach (Sunrise) and be on the West Coast for the sunset over the Gulf. Orlando....has well....we all know about the Skull Kingdom...(Magic Kingdom may beat them out for name recognition). We have air boat rides, sunset cruises, watch dolphins, manitees...I know gas prices are out the wazoo.....but ZI rode yesterday 8 hours to get to Helen GA....and rode another 5 hours to reach the Tail of the Dragon (There and back to Helen). Some say 'trickle down economics' doesn't work....but.....I am employing people.
The people that sold me gas, meals, cleaned my room, t-shirts.....beer.....beer. Everyone that took a dollar from me....was employed by someone and I helped them. If you can't make it to Daytona, you will be missed. I will be at the Boot Hill or Iron Horse Saloon; The guy in the blue jeans, with a black t-shirt and a mustache. (Kick me in the *** and say HELLO!

..personally, I have never felt the need or desire to go to Daytona during bike week. Yes I have been to Daytona, during the race (500)...but Daytona during bike week is just traffic, cops, drinking,(I gave it up years ago),..and the kicker is the riding in Florida just doesn't appeal to me..no mountains....Maybe 30 years ago it would have been my thing when I was crazy...but now, it doesn't do it....Sturgis on the other hand, is on the bucket list!...good luck

If you think the gas is a deal breaker, check the motel prices.

I live in the Tampa Bay area and ride over for the second weekend. We usually stay four days. They have priced me out of staying over night.

I can afford it but refuse to pay 4 times the cost of a room because it's Bike Week.

From a Vendor standpoint it is very expensive to set up,travel, and in the end if you have a few days of bad weather you loose big time..

I wouldn't mind seeing the Daytona rally at some point in my life, but I'd rather spend the bucks out west for the blackhills rally at Sturgis. The riding is aces out west, love that scenery. Gasoline has gone up but it's the least of the expenses in my opinion.

I'd love to go, but for me it is much more about the ride than it is the destination. Nice ride down, hang around a few days in the chaos then another good ride home. Last rally I went to was Laconia in 1998, the women kept taking their tops off! Boy that was awful
