Default Harley ESP

When i bought my 13' Street Glide I also purchased the ESP. Now after reading the contract I have regrets about buying it. I plan on doing a Stage 1 on it and doing the work myself.
But under section 6 of the contract, Non-Covered Conditions, it states that if I modify my exhaust system the contract is void. (my simplified interpretation)
Has anybody had their contract voided because they worked on their own bike?

My personal experience is the warranty (factory or esp) is only as good as the dealer you are dealing with.

I have used one dealership that refused to cover anything and I have dealt with two other that have included everything, even items I didn't think would be included.

That being said, if you have buyers regret about the esp, you can cancel it any time and get a pro rated refund.

my dealer assured me of 100% refund if not used(may have been the first one they sold). I had my own tires to install on hd blk chrome wheels before delivery and service manager gave me grief over possible warranty issues. I cancelled warranty before delivery, took 5 months for refund and still lost $105. everyone passed the buck on the $105.

Never, Never buy a ESP, In my opinion its a rip off thats rarely ever needed on these newer bikes.

And your opinion is based on....? How many miles do you have on that 11 ultra? What was your last bike, what year and how many miles?

FWIW My opinion based on an 11 RGC with 30k Kms an 03 RG w 160k Kms and a 97 heritage w 80k Kms is that extended warranties are indispensable. They have more than paid for themselves. Based on experience to date w the 11 (compensator, trans spline, starter) and some independent wrenches i know the extended warranty is necessary even more so on the 07s and up than the earlier years.

On the other hand, if they are only ridden to bike nights/coffee shops on sunny days, I would agree with you whole heatedly...

That's basically it in a nutshell. Its all about what service says when they call in the authorization. If a dealership wants to be an *** about it they will just say no. The ones who actually want your business will work with you. I got an ESP when I got my '12 Ultra Classic and it was the first question I asked. Considering the dealer was the one who put my mufflers, a/c, and PC-V on the new bike I wasn't surprised when the service manager said they wouldn't cover the actual aftermarket part itself but not to worry about anything else.

If getting told no is what you're worried about, talk to your service dept first, then decide if you want to cancel the ESP.

Here's my experience, 08 FLTR 64,700 miles as of today.
35K Starter R&R W/new.
42K Compensatore R&R w/new.
47K Speed sensor. R&R w/new.
50K Fuel pump & Frt. motor mount. R&R w/new.
52K Front axle Brgs. R&R w/new.
55K Voltage Regulator. R&R w/new.
58K Rectifier. R&R w/new.

As can be seen the ESP paid for itself easily.

That sucks.
The insurance company must ask what's on the bike.Guess it's up to the SW what to say to cover his ***.

The tire and wheel coverage alone more than pays for my 7 year warranty..
