Default Installing saddlebag guards on Street Glide

I have a question for anybody who has installed saddlebag guards http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US
On a 09 or newer Street Glide.
Under the seat attached to the top frame are two seat bumpers that press up against the seat.
After installing the saddlebag guards it seems that you don't re-install the seat bumpers as the bolt hole for the bumpers is now used by the top mounting position of the saddlebag guard.

My question is will the seat on my 2012 SG fit OK and not be loose without these seat bumpers and the saddlebag guards installed?
Has anybody installed the saddlebag guards on a 09 or newer SG and how did your seat fit with the saddlebag guards installed and with out the seat bumper?

YES

I have installed the saddlebag guards and the seat fits just fine without moving around I did not notice any difference.

P51,

Those seat bumpers were the motherships way of saving money again! In 2009
with the frame change, they gave you these bumpers so that they would raise your stock seat. There is no other purpose for them.

If you are installing the saddle bag guard rails, take them off! Your seat will work fine with the saddle bag guard rails and you will be stoked!!!!

Good Luck and Ride Safe

My 09 didn't have any bumpers...they were just threaded holes where I mounted the upper guard...seen here.

ICEMAN,

These bumpers were not a stock item. I think they were more of a upgrade for the CVO Road Glides. They were there to tighten the seat gap and the console of the gas tank. Everyone was bitchen about the gap and instead of ordering them a new saddle, they made the cheap plastic bumpers.

Ride Safe,

AH - thks YB...that makes sense. Just so happened to be the perfect mounting point for HD & aftermarket guards. Worked to my advantage.

I think there was a TSB out for the 09s.It had something to do with the seat causing a dent in the rear fender where the bolt attaches the seat to the fender. These bumpers were supposed to prevent this.

The guards are a good thing to have and could save you some major grief down the road.

I have the comfort saddlebag guards on my 2012 SG and mine did have rubber bumpers. I did not put them back on and my seat is fine w/o them. I also have a reduced reach set as well but I cannot tell any difference with or w/o them on.
