Audio Freaks
Ok thanks...and do you happen to have a pic of them installed?.. just wondering how they look without the grills...
oh ok, sounds good thanks again
I recently installed a 1200 watt sound system on my Ultra Limited. I went with all Polk MM series speakers at first. The Bike sounded awesome but at highway speeds, a lot of songs do not sound like I thought they should.
So I bought a set of Boston Acoustics SPZ-60 speakers. I got a good deal on them but these suckers still retail for around $1k per set!
Anyway, I installed them in the upper fairing and sitting in the driveway, they are a slight improvement over the Polk MM6501's that I started with.
But at highway speeds, they all sound the same.
You can go the expensive route if you want too but I advise you to find someone with a decent sound system and hear it for your self before sinking too much $$ on a system that will sound the same when you are riding as the guy who spent half the $$.
Here is a video I shot detailing the original install of the Polk's and Alpine amp's.
The upper fairing speakers are now Boston SPZ-60's but I am thinking about putting the Polk's back in and selling the Boston's. It really does not make a big enough difference at riding speeds to justify more expensive speakers. And believe it or not, these Polk's sound pretty damn nice!
Here is the install write up if you want some ideas on what route to go with your install.

Well that certainly puts things into perspective now doesn't it! lol.. That is a serious system you have there,,, now i do not want to take up trunk space or anything but to each their own ..very impressive!.. A lot of work went into that system.! I would have thought that if you put that much money into a system you would at least say it was the best thing since sliced bread and nothing could beat it but you didn't. So that right there tells me for what i need ..top notch isnt ...
Thanks again..!
On a side note does anyone have the part numbers for the rear speaker pods from Harley with the volume control ?... i would assume the wiring would come with them also?,... i do not want the boom w/ speaker pod combo,, just the pods separate .. i do not want the hogtunes, i want the harley pods with volume control. Thanks again everyone!
I sure hope you get it dialed in !!

But one thing I learned from the whole experience is this.
What sounds awesome in the parking lot, doesn't sound that way @ 80 mph. That is all I am trying to say here.
Look at what your long term goals are and what you want from your system. Do you want a parking lot Queen or do you want the best tunes you can get while riding 80 mph?
If you mainly want riding tunes? Don't go all out and install a $5000 system.
I sure as hell don't want to discourage you from doing your sound system. As for me, I love mine but I have talked to a few guys who dumped a couple thousand into a sound system that were disappointed in the sound while riding.
Your choice in $500 speakers may sound just as good as a set of $150 Polks is what I am getting at here.
I just wanted to enlighten him on the difference between sitting still and cruising on the highway. If I had it to do all over again, I would do it the same way with just the Polk's.
The Bostons add some detail and tighter mid range, but at highway speeds, I can't tell the difference.
