Default How much oil?

I just changed my oil for the first time in my 06 Ultra. I read somewhere on this fourm to put back 3 1/2 qts. of oil. I did and it was not as much as I drained out. My manual says 4 qts. how much is right? How much do ya'll put back in? Thanks

Put 3 1/2 quarts in. Run it for a few moments to fill the oil filter and lines. Then re-check it and add if you need to.

I second what Keystone says.

For sure, start with 3 1/2 quarts. The last thing you want to do is overfill it......you'll have oil coming out the air cleaner in no time.

I usually end up around 3 2/3 - 3 3/4 quarts, that puts it right on the money with the dipstick.

I've been dumping in 4 quarts for years now. I don't get any out the air cleaner.

I end up using all 4 quarts - with oil filter replacement. But, yes, start with 3.5 and move up. On kickstand, hot engine to top of fill line. Cold engine to middle of fill lines.

The engine holds 4 quarts. You dumping the oil doesn't get the "entire 4 quarts out" so the put 3.5 in and then ride the bike to warm things up and top from there is the way to go.
