CHILLLS; so are you saying that the additional parts are required for anything newer than 2010 for the black and chrome kits or will the chrome kit that includes all the parts for $40 more, like craigffb is recommending still work on my 2012 FLHX?
thanks,
Dude....take the black ones back...order the part number that I just posted and you'll be good. My bike is a 2012. The parts catalog is your friend. It tells you waht fits your bike right on the page.
Never mind, misunderstood the post I was responding to.
All good.
Yes, the chrome kit comes with everything you need. I didn't realize you were talking about a different kit.
FWIW, I didn't use the antenna bracket. I tied my antenna to the frame and routed it toward the tank, strapping it down with black zip ties. "Poor mans hidden antenna". LOL

thanks,
all i can say is that i had to order the additional pieces to be able to put on my rear bars.
i have a 2011 & my buddy has a 2009 & he didnt need the additional parts for his so when i asked the parts guy why there was a difference between the two bikes thats when he told me they changed in 2010 & that he didnt realize that they had changed them either when i ordered mine. there is a side note in the catalog that the parts guy didnt see when he ordered mine the first time.

i have the H-D hidden ant in the fairing & have heard that using the stock ant. is a better way to go.....wish i had done that instead.

I think I'm still going to try to cut the original support bars and then bolt and/or weld to the new pieces. It's almost a challenge now that I think I have to attempt. You're right, it will be close. I went out to the garage when I got home last night and just eye-balling it, I think it's possible. I'll try to get some more exact measurements tonight and then hopefully have a go at it.
If it works, great! ...will save me another $230 and probably a week of waiting for the parts and the only thing I've lost is my original under-bag supports. If it doesn't, I think I'll return the black ones for the chrome kit as Craigffb has recommended and then just powdercoat them if I still want them in black.
I'll try to take pics and post if it looks like I'm going to proceed with the cutting.
Subscribed. Just got my shiny new pair of bars I scored on eBay only to find out the same thing. I'm thinking there may be enough room cutting right after the bend, just not sure how to attach them at that point.

I'm thinking I'll bolt if there's space. If not, I'll weld them. I haven't gotten time to do them yet though, I got caught up this week in buying a new bike!

I hear ya, I'm in no big rush to experiment myself. Out of my 3 bikes, my SG is the only one currently not having problems so I don't really want to tear it apart.
