Got mine from Hill Country Custom Cycles for $160 on eBay (come in black & chrome)...plus these are thicker than HD's (same size as hwy bar). For "black" guards on FLHX you'll also need:

- Left & Right Saddlebag Supports (~$70/ea = $140 total)
- Antenna bracket (to relocate = $8)

So my total was little over $300 for all, but I also thought about cutting the stock/chrome supports. Guess the worse is you end up having to buy the black HD set for $140, if it gets messed-up. Good luck!

well, I finally made a little time this evening to do this. Happy to say that it seems to have worked out well so far. I cut the stock bars, dry fit everything and then welded the new black crash bars to the stock under-bars, cleaned up & painted the welds and it's done. Saved a few hundred.

Sweet! How much overlap was there where you slide the crash bar over the stock bars you cut? Looks like another snowy day project!

I'd guess maybe a half inch. Would have liked more, but I felt comfortable with it. Haven't ridden with it yet, but I feel good about it.

I guess as long as the weld took to it good it should be plenty strong enough. I think I might try making some sort of sleeve for mine though to get a little more overlap.

A sleeve is a good idea. I didn't think of that at the time. I'm not worried though. It seems really solid.

Great info guys!
I just fitted the black saddle bag guards, parts worked well although had to modify the aerial bracket to fit the new bag support.
Should have given your way a go.
Oh well live and learn.
