Default New motor noise

Toward the end of my ride on Sun, I started hearing and noise coming from the right side of the motor, kind of a rattling, maybe chain rubbing kind of sound. Doesn't do it at idle or when revving the motor in neutal, but while accelerating under light throttle and some times while just cruising, sometimes not at all. Any ideas before I take it in to have someone look at it?
Thx.

Noises can be weird. I had a funny squeak, almost a chirp sound coming from the engine (I thought). I found it the other day. It was the rubber mount for the exhaust hanger. Point is even though it sounds like its coming from the right side it could be coming from a completely different place. Could also be transmission whine.

Check the nuts holding on the exhaust pipe flange(s). I had a similar intermittent noise a few years ago-turned out both nuts had fallen off the front cylinder flange, which was slightly displaced, but not enough to notice on casual inspection. There was a tinny rattle and exhaust gases were leaking out, but only when the engine was hot, and especially at idle and low speeds; the pipe appeared and felt tight when the engine was cold. I had to put on a nomex glove to wiggle the pipe when it was hot to diagnose the problem. Problem solved when I replaced the lost nuts.

Hope this helps!

Does it sound like a couple marbles in a can and/ or a tick tick?

OH sorry what bike it is might help. 02 RK with 25K. It really sounds like some like a chain vibration of some kind to me. Definitely not marbles in a can and not like valve noise either.

Initially I was going to say it sounds like you have "pinging" issue. That is based on the bolded portion of your original post.

But then you go on to say it's not the marbles in the can sound, and that is the way many will describe a ping.

So now, I don't know.

If you're sure it's coming from the right side of the motor, and being that it is an '02, I might be suspecting cam chain tensioners if they've never been checked and/or replaced.

But truthfully - diagnosing noises over the internet is far from a robust science.

Definitely not pinging, my 1st guess was something to do with the cam chain guides also, a local shop told me that was a pretty common issue on 02s.
