I use "ORANGE" hand cleaner - nice clean flat black finish - also works great on the white walls - try it - you will like it - also works good on your hands - tom

+1 on the Westleys bleach...but this is for cleaning the white walls only. I would not dare put a dressing on the tires for that "shinny/wet" look.

So your opinion is anyone that carefully applies tire dressing to their side wall has a death wish? Interesting.

Are you really of the opinion that a small amount of tire dressing on the sidewall is apt to cause you more problems than the copious amounts of motor oil on the road?

That is opinion I can understand, but I believe when applied properly tire dressing is a non issue....JMO of course

No. My opinion Mike is tire dressing has no business on a bike. I'll clarify.....on MY bike for sure.
(but I do believe on any bike..LOL)
So JMO .....but yep thats my opinion. We all have them on this forum, and in life, and thats mine.

I am a FULL BELIEVER of Murphys Law.....(when it comes to me) Murphys law being....if something bad is going to happen it's going to happen at the worst time possible) So for that reason....for me I would never put tire dressing on a MC tire because with my luck I'd put a dab too close to the side or I'd run in water and splash it to my rear or some other stupid thing would happen to ME due to ME putting tire dressing on my tire. So the short answer for me is YES. I believe my tire dressing would somehow cause me a problem over all the copius amounts of motor oil on the road. JMO but yes thats what I believe.

Mike I'm all for a great looking tire. My cars are always done up but I have 4 wheels on them and ample stopping power. On my bikes I have two wheels and these things have very little tread patch beteween me and the road....so for all you guys that dress them up I wish you a billion safe miles. I just dont have the ***** to do it.

Not knocking you guys personally I'm just spooked by it.
JMO....

New tires this week and wanted to make them look new with tire dressing. Very careful to make sure none got on tread...I was very careful let me repeat. After reading this blog, this morning I recheck the tires. Sure enough, the dressing has leaked onto the tread area. That's it for me...no more tire dressing.

Use to put Pledge on tires but not so much since they diluted the product.....just a soap down is good enough during my post trip detailing.

I'll admit I like a clean bike, tires included; which is why I do the sidewalls a couple times a year. The next time I clean the tires I am going to try the Orange hand cleaner someone mentioned, might just be the best of both worlds.
