Thanks for the link Stew. They have the bottom for 185. Not sure if the newer top will fit it.

Both top and bottom are 337 but you still need all of the hardware, backrest, etc. Don't see one assembled.

Does Lakeshore give the 20% off? I know they can't advertise that with the new HD rules, but they also don't have an ordering thing on the web like some other do.

A little story: 2 years ago I was working on my ULTRA with the kickstand on a block to get the bike vertical (being lazy, instead of using the jack). I accidentally hit the TP with my shoulder, and she started to go over, opposite the kickstand. In a panic I grabbed the first thing I could before it was to late. The open TP lid, just above the hinge. Struggling with all I had, I kept her upright. Problem is - all that force was put directly into the TP bottom right in front of the front hinge. The damage - a 4 inch L shaped tear from the upper opening down towards the bottom of the TP.
Here's my point:
It's not noticeable, and it hasn't gotten any worse since it happened, about 10K miles ago. Including having a load on the rack for some of it, AND two up. I do plan on reinforcing it this winter, but I've come to the conclusion that this is not as high of a stress area as I thought it would be. It's prob less stress on the latch.
That said - IMO, since you're already into this TP, find someone reputable to do the repair and paint it for the price you are willing to pay. If the costs are too high - resell it and take a chance on the next one. Maybe the right color too.

if i were in the market for one right now, i would check with pc_pain (jon from horny toad hd) here on the forum. great discounts, great service. he's real good about keeping me broke

You might wish to check with one of the bumper repair guys. They have plastic welders that might be able to repair your tour pak. They also specialize in small paint jobs, and are pretty good at matching paint.

I've done plenty of plastic repair. I use a plastic repair from 3M. You can buy it at NAPA. If the repair is done properly, the fix will be stronger than the surrounding material.

Try fixing the crack and see what happens ... Don't put the work into painting it until you've given it a "road test" ( loaded of course ) and see what happens ... If the repair holds, do the paint work, if not you've only lost the price of the repair not the paint job ... just my .02 cents worth ... And if anyone asks why it looks so "funky" ... just tell them you're doing some research for HD ...

Just got back from the 2nd shop. They said that it is no problem to fix, and gave me a special deal (brother in blue that owns the shop). 150.00 repaired and painted. Even if the repair looks flimsy I can always sell it on Ebay and most likely get more out out of it than I have in it.

Thanks for all the advice guys...was stressing cause I can't spend a Whole lot with Christmas and birthdays coming.

I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

When you look at used ones you really need to take into consideration the cost of getting it painted. Unless of course your a painter.. I looked at the cost of getting one painted before I bought my king tour pak and that was the deciding factor on just buying a new one. I went to http://www.cyclepartsforless.com/har...ur-pak_luggage, king tour pak direct from HD painted to match your bike less the the backrest for $622.00 shipped to your door. Best part is, it's new, no blemishes & ready to install.. If you want a wrap-around backrest, you can get those on e-bay a a decent price. I wanted one off a chopped so I ended up buying a new one from the same place. The cost of my backrest was $132.00 & it was shipped with my tour pak.. I am very pleased with what I did & saved a ton of cash over buying someone elses used over my new one.. Either way, good luck with whatever you decide to do...
