Just got back from the 2nd shop. They said that it is no problem to fix, and gave me a special deal (brother in blue that owns the shop). 150.00 repaired and painted. Even if the repair looks flimsy I can always sell it on Ebay and most likely get more out out of it than I have in it.
Without the backrest, lock and the mount I will have a total of 325.00 into this pack...and it is an Ultra pak with the lights in the back (which is what I wanted). I just got some speaker pods off ebay for a bill and change and I ordered a Mustang Backrest to match my seat. I THINK that I am ahead of the game so far, and I know that the shop I took the pak to will stand behind their work. I was just re-assured by a co-worker that they stand by their work as well.
LOL...I can see people trying to pass off their crap. I couldn't do that to anyone else. I would be honest in the ads (NO BULLSHIT). I just honestly believe that someone will buy it as I am amazed at the prices some of the JUNK is selling for on Ebay right now.
I was trying to get a black lid instead of painting this one (figured I could more or less swap them out through ebay sale and purchase) but all of the ones I found had holes in the top for a rack and the ones that didnt were goinf ro over 200.00. The broken up bottoms were selling for ~125.00 in the auctions I was following.
I've been considering trying these guys for a tourpak. Has anyone ordered from them?
looks promising. i couldn't tell from their website if that included painting or not. if not, and your bike is something other than vivid black, then you'd be better off buying the genuine hd color matched. unless you have an 'in' with a paint shop.
To stop the crack from continuing, before doing the repair, drill a small hole at the end of the crack then do the repair. This is what I was always told how to stop a crack before welding up.
Got the TP today. Had to meet the painter because it was not ready when I left that part of town from work. Got it home and there were a few particles in the paint on the top For the price I figured what the hell. Got the backrest on, Custom Dynamics LEDS and smoke lenses, lock, etc. I didn't install the Premium hinges or latches yet as we have a ride tomorrow night to make a few donations. Got everything installed and working right....but I didn't take pics of the TP before it fell of the bench and landed on the lid. Got a few nice scars that will have to be resanded and repainted. That'll have to wait until after Thanksgiving now!
The crack repair in the side worked great. I could not even tell that the crack was there (inside or out). Even after the fall, there is no evidence that there was a crack in the side.
I was able to use the CD Magic Convertor for Tour Paks to wire in the lights. I still have to install the Hogtunes speaker pods (they appear to have a different pattern than stock) and wire those in. That'll require some deutsch connectors as well.
