So my 15 inch windsplitter on my 13 roadglide custom has been rubbing on the inside where it meets the fairing and now it has a nice etched line about 3 inches long just above the black. I asked the dealer and they gave me the deer in the headlights look since I didnt pay them an hour of labor to intstall the damn thing they wont help me...I have figured out a fix I hope. I masked off a quarter inch wide line about 4 inches long where it has been rubbing on the inside and used some black high temp RTV and made a gasket to prevent rubbing and vibration. I will update when dry and re installed
I have a windshield on my road king custom and it has that little chrome wind deflector that mounts the fork lock cover so i was checking on removing it and just installing a stock road king fork lock cover so they asked why and I said when you ride at interstate speeds the wind comes over the windshield and then deflects up off of the deflector and then it catches my helmet and rattles and shakes my brains out. so they first asked if it was a harley windshield and I said yes and they said is it mounted right and I said yes it is quick disconnect windshield if it wasn't mounted right then the damn thing would blow off.
Then I told them look I know what it does and why it does it just give a price on the cover.

you're gonna need a couple of items.
first, the riser cover
HANDLEBAR COVER, CHROME
67866-03
msrp: 89.99
then the trim spear:
TRIM, NACELLE
67868-03
msrp: 24.49
the riser cover you can usually find on ebay for a decent price (i think i paid about 25.00 for mine), but the trim i had to buy new. be careful not to buy the newer riser cover (67866-08), it won't fit.
I have a windvest and it did the exact same thing after less than a week. I called and got the impression it was a pretty common thing.
My wind splitter was on for several months and it never rubbed the paint off.

Yea thanks for the info. I got them to give me a price on the riser cover which I told them thanks. I was not going to pay that for that cover. Now I have that trim spear on mine right now and it looks like it will work on either cover.
I doubt it matters much that you did not pay then to install it, the dear in the headlight look is standard for any question / complaint that does not start with the full understanding that you want to give them more money...
Remember HD stands for "hundreds of dollars" not "helpful dealers."
I got the RTV on the wind splitter and now when I can figure out how to get the pic to upload I will put here. I just got sick of hearing the damn thing jiggle and rub. I even bought a torque driver and torqued the screws properly still jiggled
