My 07 FLHT sucks it is setting in the basement taunting me , saying ride me , ride me , DAMN that bike!![:@]If it would warm up I would show that bike who is boss!!
I picked up my 07 Ultra in late Nov, and havent had any problems with it. I got a little worrried after finding this forum and reading about all the problems some where having, but so farmy bike runs great with no out of the ordinary tranny noises in any gear. I second what a lot of folks here have said and would have no qualms buying the same bike again.
The bike runs hot due to it being set up to meet EPA regs by moto company but a power commander will fix that real quick. There is a little noise in 5th gear if your rpm's are to low. That seem to be a big issue with everyone who complained about 5th and 6th gear - they were going to slow for the gear they were in. If your not doing 70 plus you have no business being in 6th gear on a Ultra. Other than that - which is nothing - I have no complaints with mine and would make the purchase again.
I love my 07 RK. However, It did whine in 5th/1st. I used AMSOIL HD 75-140W and that is about nill for whining now, 1st still does, but I don't cruise in 1st . It also clattered and ran HOT but that got better with a PCIII on it. And then they did the 903 performance enhancement[:'(]. It didn't really help anything that I could tell. Since then I have gone rinehart TD's and stage 1 with PCIII. Hell, I can't really hear anything clattering now unless I lean right down in front of the windshield, then I can hear some clattering. Sounds kinda like a non rythmical liftertop end noise to me... Most seem to think it is a resonating sound from the compensator inside primary.
Regardless, I got 4000 miles on mine with no real problems though and love riding the bike. I don't regret the bike at all and definitely ride it more then my Dyna.
Bought mine 12/23 (wife actually bought it for me), build was early December. Yes 5th whines a bit and 6th doesn't like it under 70 much. But is it noisy?
I have an 05' Sporty and it whines and rattles alot more!!! I was actually surprised how quiet in comparison the '07 Ultra is. It's just the gears and how they are cut. Ride the hell out of it i say! No regrets, and the wife loves it too.
It's these comments that made all the poor guys with problems so mad, heck we already have 40 threads on this subject alone.
Maybe a few people were pulling way low RPMS but I don't think 2000-2700 RPM is too slow for 5th gear. Andfor the record Idon't have an problem pulling 65 in 6th all day....
And thats my business.....
Just jabbin

There never was a problem with the transmission on the 07's . A few guys were complaining of a sound thatturn es out came from the primary , which was fixed with the free torque smoothing download service bulletin a few months ago. I know several guys that own new bikes with no issues , only heard of complaints from this forum. I would recommend a 07 they really did make some real nice upgrades with these bikes. I am very happy with mine.
The 0903 remap didn't completely fix the clatter on my SG, although it may have improved it. Hard to tell since I did it three days after buying the bike and only about one week before installing a PCIII, all of which probably helped by smoothing the engine operation. I've adjusted my riding habits to keep RPM's above 2200 in 5th and 6th and the compensator clatter is no longer much of an issue. This took some getting used to, as my Evo RK could chug along all day at 1800 or even 1600 RPM's in high gear, while the TC96 does feel happy that low in the higher gears. I'm not sure why, but the increased compression ratio may be a factor (8.5 vs. 9.2:1).
I now have 2k on the bike and this noise seems to be less noticeable than before the 1000-mile service when I installed some thicker oil in the primary (Castrol GTX 20w50). If anyone is still dissatisfied with the compensator clatter, try changing the oil. Any 15w50 or 20w50 should do as well. Some others have declared an improvement using Redline MTL, a light gear oil, but I'm not comfortable using a gear oil in that area because of the clutches. OTOH, this is Redline's recommendation for the primary.
I've noticed the complaints were mostly with the touring machines. I'm wondering if the cooler weather hasn't had something to do with all these issues as well....
I've thought about this, too, as the clatter appears to occur only when the bike is hot. I'm anxious to see if it increases in intensity as the weather gets warmer. I did ride the bike one day a few weeks ago when the temperatures approached 80°F, and oil temps hitting 200° for the first time while in stop-and-go traffic, but I didn't notice any clatter as long as RPM's stayed about about 2200 in 5th and 6th.
