I just picked up a 1999 Ultra Classic with the original head and driving lights. Was wondering if the headlight is a sealed beam type or can I just replace the bulb. Looking for something with more light output on a budget. Also any recommendations on driving lamps.
the bulb is a H4 style available at any auto parts store- they have "xtravision" and silverstar halogens.
higher than stock wattage can burn up the wiring so if you buy something for "off road use" you could be causing yourself further problems.
the HD halogen upgrade is worth doing if your spots are still sealed beam-- if already upgraded then the H3 style bulb is what they take. 35 watts is recommended. they can take 55 watts if you upgrade the wiring and switching.
check then headlight connector is not melted or deformed, if so, replace it.
When I was putting the stereo in my 99 EG Standard this summer I found the headlight wires semi melted, the headlight was upgraded, glad I found it before worse damage happened.
I also have a 99 UC . I bought Headlight and driving lamps off the board here from a 08 I believe. Cheap... Headlight fits and works well. Brighter too.
Driving lights has a different connector
harley sells a wiring adapter for 9 bucks and some change
HD part # is 68355-05
Hope this helps
