Not sure if I missed something but if the trans locked up it locked up the motor at the same time causing it to die. As you state 125/130 thats a hell of a lot and the tensioners were most likely the weakest link when the engine locked. Add rpms to that scenario and consider yourself lucky the primary didnt lock to the point of breaking the crank. My $.02 for an initial guess.

The stock parts broke. What caused this? Harley transmissions suck compared to the Baker Transmissions. I love the new six speed . Shifts very smooth. Pulls real hard, no vibration. Neutral is so easy to find. I wanted to know what caused the stock bearing to fail and break the mainshaft? I have been riding over 30 years, Have owned 9 harleys, 3-Honda's 1 Bmw and never had a mainshaft bearing fail and brake a driveshaft.

As to what caused a bearing failure, could be a number of things. Besides a faulty component (with 22k I doubt this was the case) it could be an operational issue, maybe a fluid breakdown at some point that caused excessive heat and the hardness came off the surface which than creates rapid wear. I have 40k on my 07 and never had an issue until this summer I had to replace the oil pump and the shop that did the emergency work changed all the fluids and shorted the primary by a half qt, than had issues after a trip in 110* heat. When I changed the fluids there was like black ash at the bottom of the trans and hella noise in the primary. My trans fluid has always come out looking new at change interval. So Im thinking this guy put crap fluid everywhere.
I ended up replacing my new primary chain because it was wasted, and Im going to replace the bearings as GP. Sorry for the long post but there is a lot of variables that can lead to a failure.
BTW Im picking up a 04 R/K Custom tomorrow. Bone stock with 33k. Im looking forward to getting it.

There was no change in color in the fluid.or excess metal in the fluid. The race on the bearing seized and bent and broke the shaft. Prior to this happening the clutch became a lot harder to pull in and there seemed to be more vibration than normal on the left mirror. I am glad his did not happen while riding. It would have been ugly.

Enjoy Your Road King Very nice bike to ride. I am the second owner on this 2005 RK custom and I really love this bike. I do all of my own service and use Ams oil. I bought the bike used off of e bay and was cautious about purchasing a stroker and big build . T.R. REISER OF T-MAN did all the work and the build is very well done. I do not beat the bike to death as it has plenty of torque and horsepower and The bike runs perfect. (Untill this happened) No issues, no leaks, Runs very strong.

I just have to get used to the "Real Red" color, basically going to flip it but I will keep it as long as possible before the wife says I have too many toys.
