I recently had my main shaft on transmission bend and break while stopped
after filling up with gas. I went to put the bike in to first gear and pulled in the clutch and the bike lurched forward and died. I struggled to find neutral and tried again and heard a big crunch and the bike stalled and the clutch lever went limp. My first thought was broken clutch cable. (I wish) after further inspection in to the cable it lead me to a bad clutch or clutch basket. No such luck. I pulled out the gear set and there it was Bearing failed and broke off inner part of drive shaft. It also broke the cam chain tensioner. I just finished installing a Baker DD6. Very nice upgrade but not cheap. Has anyone else had this happen. I have a 2005 Road King Custom 22,000 miles.
I'm confused. Cam chain tensioner is on one side while all transmission is on the other. I thought you were trying to describe was a shift linkage break as happened to me recently. IDK, maybe just I been drinkin' but your story is confusing. Further explanation???

Maybe he means the primary chain tensioner? Need some more facts... I agree it seems unlikely the two parts indicated would be damaged by one event.
Alright, I just read your post twice and can't figure out what broke. Mainshaft is in the transmission, primary chain tensioner is in the primary, ( which couldn't cause a "limp" clutch lever,) AND a broken bearing on the "drive shaft?" ( transmission again?)
Transmission Mainshaft bearing froze and broke of a 4" piece of the driveshaft.
Auto chain tensioner also broke. I do not know what caused this failure. Bad bearing? Factory defect. (No clutch dumps) I do not need to worry about torque or Hp as the bike is 130 ft lbs torque 125 hp, Barnett scorpion clutch and basket are in great condition.
