I use polished stainless 12pt's from Diamond Engineering. Expensive but worth it.

The stock ones do seem to be made from a softer material. If you buy a replacement set of derby cover screws from the stealer they appear to be a harder more polished material, likely a higher grade stainless steel over the stock ones. Found that out when I swapped my derby cover and it came with replacement fasteners that were much better quality. Once I do that first oil change the stock derby fasteners hit the trash and the new ones go in. That started after having to drill out a couple that I stripped the head on. Have not had that issue with the HD replacements.

Nothing wrong with the torx, it is what they are made of. Get some stainless ones.

Buy some snap on tips or other good quality tips for what ever you decide to use fastener wise. Not that harbor freight crap or as they say jap crap, and you won't have problems.

My factory torx derby cover bolts show no wear even after 11 or so fluid changes (50,000 miles so far). How much torque are you using?

SS 1/4-20 is all you need. I changed them on my derby the first time.

1/4-20 socket head cap screw stainless or button head style. The outer primary uses the socket head cap screws just longer than what you'll need for the derby cover. I'm a machinist so I just took mime to work and put them on a lathe and cut the knurl off and polished them with scotch brite. Looks ike chrome.

If you go stainless, make sure you lightly coat the entire part w/ anti-seize.
