No problems with my torx, I use a good tool with a good fit. I keep anti sieze on the threads. And, I just snug 'em up, not too tight. That "snap" that they do when they are on too tight seems close to failure to me. After all, why do some people put them on so tight that they break 'em off trying to get 'em off the next time around?
Must be the same folks that wring off valve cover bolts on old chevy's.
Ease up some, Dudes...

the reason i'll not use stainless screws from ace hardware or the local lowes, or hardware stores, is because the stainless is softer than a grade 5 steel bolt. closer to what would be a grade 5. that's why when you tighten stainless steel allen bolts, the hex hole will deform. you certainly don't need grade 8 screws to go into the cast aluminum primary cover to hold your derby cover on. but the soft stainless ones are just too soft. i use the stainless screws only in a low stress connections.

a correction.......most stainless hardware is softer than a grade 5. closer to what would be a grade "3" instead.

The problem is not usually the fastener, but the bit that is used on it. Torx bits wear pretty quickly and most of the tech's use the with 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch battery powered impact guns.

The impact guns wear and distort the bits pretty quickly. I work as an ATV Tech and most of these bike are to the point that they 80% torx fasteners.

My Snap-on Dealer hates to see me. I routinely replace 4 t0 6 torx bits every month under warranty.

A bad bit or not holding the bit straight and completely seated when loosening or tightening the screw will cause most torx screw problems. If your bit is twisted or worn trash it or return it and get a new one.
