Default Progressive Motorcycle Show

Anyone been to the Progressive International Motorcycle Show in past years? (The one advertised on the pages here). It comes to Chicago in February and I thinking about checking it out as I want to upgrade my Street Glide's stereo system and rear suspension in the future. I have gone to the Chicago Auto Show in the past but have never been to any bike shows. Wondering how it is and if its worth the time as I'll have to use a day off work for it.

From Boston going to te one in new York city. It's not a great show to be honest. It's more of a tradition of catching up with old friends down there and partying for me then the show. I would not take a day off.

Nope...not a fan of the vendors/crowds. You can find better deals online and see better bikes on a ride, or local bike night.

Was not impressed with the show in Charlotte NC. The Cycle Gear show in Greenville SC was much better.

I attended one of these shows a couple of years ago. You will see mostly metric and European manufacturers. I did see Indian the last time, but they are pretty much over and done unless Polaris does something with the brand name. Several vendors with riding gear, boots, helmets. Lots of manufacturer booths showing off their latest products. Technical seminars with some benefit. Lots of give-away trinkets to stuff your bag.
These events are usually free parking if you ride your bike, but paid parking if you take the cage.
If' you have never attended one, I would recommend you try at least one of them so you will have an idea of what they are all about. Just my 2 cents.

My wife and I go to the one in here in Chicago almost every year. Yes, you can find better deals elsewhere. It is nice to see things up close, to touch them and see the quality of what you want to buy. If you go at the end of the show, vendors offer deals so they can sell their stock off and have to pack less as they leave. If it is not over crowded you can sit on almost every bike there, see how they fit kinda thing. We enjoy going to the show. We also get to have dinner at Gibson's steak house while we are out that way. Makes a great evening of bikes and steak.....

The wife and I have gone to the past few here in NY. I gives us the chance to "dress up" in our shirts and leathers and parade around like we know what we are doing. But seriously, unless you have an agenda, it is nothing more than an afternoon of socializing and hanging out around other bored (mid winter) bikers.

Last year I managed to track down the "Big Skinny" wallet guy and we each bought a wallet. I had passed on him a few years ago regretably. I also visited the Gerbings booth and got the lowdown on their changes they were making to the gloves. That alone was well worth the trip in. As far as which bike manufacturers were there, they pretty much all were.

I wouldn't waste taking a day off from work to go but if I found myself with the time and a purpose I would go. My worse case scenario would be a pastrami sandwich from one of the great NY deli's.

Like others have said - a chance to escape winter a bit think about riding. I do the boat show as well for the same reasons. Not worth a vacation day, but something to do when it's 20 below zero....

Thanks guy. I have some time to decide. I'm doing a stereo for sure this winter. I'd like to be able to hear a bunch of different options side by side. I can read so many reviews but YouTube videos aren't the same.
