Default TBW extension help please. Cut off or SE unit ??

I will be doing my 10 inch Yaffe bars this weekend. I was told by the dealership that cutting off the plug of the TBW and adding extensions will screw up the way the unit sees the system (voltage drop/ rest/ owns) and could cause early failure. I have read many of you have cut off the green plug and added extensions. Have you had any problems other than a few who crossed the wires ??? Is it worth another 100 dollars for the SE unit ?? Thanks in advance Be Safe JIM

I cut the TBW plug and have had no issues with mine. I also comtemplated buying the SE unit but decided to spend that 100 dollars on other goodies.

I just never thought there was so many steps to changed the bars. I have about 50 hours researching it, and the job itself should only take about 6...... LOL

I wish it had took me 6 hours! Taking the bike apart and putting it back together was the easiet part for me. Running those wires internally seemed like it took forever. I had to step away and come back several times. Good Luck!!

Tip: Do not let the front Brake Resevoir hang upside down when removing from the old bars.

Default Ha! The dealer said.

Dealers are trying to sell stuff, motorcycles, service, parts, accessories, labor hours, tee shirts, hats, jackets, etc., etc.
Some of them will say anything to get you to bring your motorcycle in to them or sell you some more parts.
I've read quite a few posts about people cutting off the green plug and extending the wires with no problems whatsoever.
As a matter of fact, are you sure you need to extend anything if your only putting 10in bars on? Isn't there sufficient slack on the stock cables in the fairing for bars as high as 12in?

And;
Tip: Do not let the front Brake Resevoir hang upside down when removing from the old bars.

How/why is this an issue?
Does it allow air into the brake lines?
Is there just too much if a chance of scratching paint?
What?

How long does the average bar swap take? I've thought about it but I don't know when I'll have 6 plus hours to dedicate to maint and not need the bike or get pulled away on something else.

Sounds much more involved than I originally thought...

I cut the plug and spliced the wires on mine too. No problems so far. I can't imagine why a few extra inches of wire is gonna make a difference. As for hanging the brake line or Master cylinder, just make sure you don't get any of that dot 4 fluid on your paint. It will eat through paint in just a few minutes.

I bought the se tbw...for piece of mind. As hard as it was to run the wires...I didn't want the chance of possibly having to do it again...

I bought the se unit aa well, after i destroyed the stock connector trying to make it work. And i had qell over 6 hours in it. It took me several attemts over a couple days to get the wires thru... br 14" bars. I am satisfied that i did it but if i had to do over i would have paid br to wire them for me.
