Default SE Tuner vs. simple remap

I am new to this forum and would appreciate advice. I was fortunate to purchase a stock 2009 Ultra Classic earlier this summer which had 2,500 miles on it. I have fallen in love with this bike after riding it some 5,000 miles and feel I understand its capabilities. While I am content with its power around town I find the 96" runs out of power far too soon for passing slow cars on two-lane HWYS, etc... I have decided to do a Stage 2 build through my local dealership that includes SE A/C, SE slipons, 255 Cams, decomp relaease. I assume that the dealer can find a perfect remap given that all mods are SE products. Everything I've read suggests improved performance from my build if I also include a SE Super Tuner. I haven't learned much detail as to how the tech will use the tuner to tweek the mods to maximize the builds potential and justify spending an additional $551 for the Tuner. Buying the tuner will add 31% more to my build cost of $1,750. I doubt that the tuner will add 31% improvement but the single ojective of this build is to improve performance so I don't want to sell the build short. I decided not to increse to 103" which would have been an additional $1,000. Just trying to get the best bang for my money while remaining with Harley products. Thak you in advance for your thoughts.

definetly buy a Powervision. Once you have it there are no additional dyno costs which I think you may not realize. The SE Tuner alone does nothing without the bike being dyno'd which will cost several more hundred dollars. I had the flash done at time of delivery but will be going to the Powervision in the new year. no matter what changes you do in the future Fuel Moto can create a map for you saving a lot of money on dyno's. Good luck.

You are going to get a lot of comments mostly all will tell you to get a map from Fuel Moto on a Power Comander.

Me personally after a built like that I would use the SE tuner and I would get a Dyno done.
Somehwere around $400 for the dyno.

I always downshifted 2 gears to pass cars on a two lane road.
Worked better than my Stage IV I had done on my last bike.

When the dealer dyno'ed my bike, the SE super tuner module was included. later on I bought the cable hook up and the software.
A good tuner will download a basic map that goes with your upgrade. From there they will "tune it in".

Thanks for such quick replies. I am particularly warry of straying from SE products as I travel far from home (i.e.) I am 45 minutes north of the ME border and the beginning of
I 95. This past summer rode south to the smokies, blue Ridge, etc...next season will be in New Orleans, Tx, and beyond. If trouble happens while I'm south I want to call 1-800 Harley dealership come get me and be confident they will know what I have and be able to fix it. So the SE tuner really only affects what a tech can do on the Dyno...my dealership doesn't have a dyno and I know of only one guy in my province/state who does. I have heard he is good though. I assume the SE tuner will allow him to adjust fuel ect.. incrementally until the optimal performace is achieved?

Your tech can use the SE Tuner without a dyno. I, like you, would use the SE Tuner so anywhere I went a dealership could help out.

I know if you have an aftermarket tuner and have trouble on the road the techs will blame a tuner they don't sell or use. That's why I agree with you to stay with HD parts.

I run se204 cams in my 96" and it is great for passing. I am not sure the 255 cam is the best choice. Not sure the se204 is either, but call an expert on the cam choice.

Thanks again guys. So, the harley tech can use the tuner despite not have the Dyno. I will cough up the cash and make the purchase. I will also call the Dyno guy and see if he will make a claim as to how much better he can maximize the output of the build. Anybody fell strongly in recommending going to the 103" at this time or I am going to get relatively equal performance from the 96" stage 2l?

SE tuner & products:
On my RKC, i bought new with SE255 cams, and SE Pro Super tuner. I had V&H exhaust and SE Ventilator AC/K&N.
My HD dealer has no dyno, they data logged with it ( vtune ) and made the map from there.
I had the bike put on a dyno at a different shop and the AFR showed some lean areas, those were corrected, and the HP and TRQ went up by 2 respectively. Noticed the improvement leaving that shop- but had it had some ping.
shop could not correct ping issue, I suffered 1,500 miles riding to CA with the crap tune that pinged, and back home.

NOTE:{I took my SE tuner dongle with me and stopped in at a HD dealer in CA, their tech rode my bike, they had a dyno, said they could not help me much and would need the bike a day to basically build a new map, said that they could not tweak the map I had }

so much for having a HD tuner..... I returned home, and went to the HD dealer, they had the bike 2 hours, data logged it- charged me $50.00 said the ping was all gone. I ride it home and Nope, Ping still persisted. Sucked.

I had enough of feeling like my hands were tied. If you have an awesome dyno tuner that CAN get you all dialed in with a SE Pro tuner great, if I was buying right now I would go PowerVison.

I changed tuner to PowerVision and pulled the cam and went TW222. Bike runs night and day - way better, and NO ping.

PowerVision allows rider to data log and augment the map - Fuelmoto can dial you in.
