Default 5" speedo have the same connection as 4"

Hi All,

I have a thread going here about trying to move the speedo next to the tach on my 09 FLHP. I am still trying to work through the details and I need to know if the wiring connection for my stock 5" RK speedo is the same as the 4" speedo used on other fairing touring models. I have the manual however it doesn't show photos of the actual connection. Does anyone know if they are the same? I am hoping that this would be a plug and play swap...

Many thanks!

Bump2 Interested in the answer.

IMO and just a thought as I don't know for sure, the '09 tachs and speedo are all driven by electronics not cables so it seems to me you could remove a 5" dash and speedo and replace with say a Dyna dual 4' tach and speedo dash then splice & wire the plugs. The 5"should have indicator lights that will not necessarily be in the 4' speedo alone so a wiring harnes from the 5' and 4' applicatioon would be needed.

Default 5" speedo have the same connection as 4"??

So I had some time today and combed through the 09 Touring Manual and the 09 FLHP/FLHPT supplement and I think this will work.

These are the manual pages for:
FLHP
FLHR
FLHT
FLHTP

Based on these diagrams ALL appear to have this pin arrangement in a 12-place Packard connection:

1 Ignition
2 Serial data
3 NC
4 NC
5 Battery
6 Accessory
7 Ground
8 Trip Switch
9 Fuel Level
10 Cruise Enable
11 Trip Switch
12 Cruise Active

So it looks like one could replace a 5" RK speedo with a 4" model from a fairing touring model and use the existing connection assuming that the wire harness is lengthened such that it will reach to the 2-up gauge cluster I'd like to use. Now I just need to find a 4" speedo that matches my current tach with the chrome ring:

I did some searching on Ronnies and the speedos used in the FLHT/FLHTP models have a black trim ring (PN 67349-08). I poked around and it looks like this 4" speedo (PN 67436-08) has the right face and trim ring however I am not sure if this will work in a touring model. I have a Q into the folks at NewcastleHD however they are off until after the New Year. Any know if 67436-08 will work in an 09 touring bike or if there is another 4" speedo PN with the look of my Tach? The ebay links I found have 67436-08 listed as Sportster speedo and I could not find this PN on H-D.com to see if it would be compatible with other HD models.

THx

The answer in the case of my 09 FLHP is yes. I made the swap and it is detailed here.
