I forgot to mention I burned all of my songs from Frostwire. When I selected the songs they all showed they were in mp3 format. I used a CD-RW 80 minute disc. When I finished the disc it showed I had 63 songs on the disc. I noticed in the Harley owners manual it said the CD player would accept disc's recorded in mp3 format. This is the kind of stuff that makes me feel old and I need a kid to do it for me. Anybody else feel that way?
I don't know anything of this mp3 stuff your writing about, still trying to figure out how to play my cassettes on the RG!

Not necessarily true, depending on what programs you use. Using an "MP3"mode usually works best.

True, HK units are some of the most expensive - yet simplistic - players that exist.

This may help. It's based on itunes but common truths apply.

this must be a lazy sunday i went and downloaded the ashampoo media studio 12 (not free anymore, btw, 30 day trial) and from what i can tell, here's the poop.

when going through and making a data disc, it just copies the file over directly, regardless of format. ie, mp3 remains mp3, etc.

when going in to the 'create audio mp3' function, it gives you the option of setting the output mp3 bitrate (in my case, i used 256kbps). it will then convert your input audio file (flac in this case) to an mp3 output. it will do the same for mp3 in, however, as i said before, it cannot upconvert to higher quality, it will further compress the mp3 to the lower quality if you wanted it to.

the important thing is the end result is the same. you end up with a data disc. just that the filenames happen to be in mp3 format. just getting there via different means. i was able to end up with virtually the same thing, same files, same extensions, same quality, same disc space, just one took a couple more steps to do it.

This is from,
HowTo: Make an MP3 disk for the Harmon Kardon
by Zues33

I've had some problems making an mp3 music disk that would play in the Harmon Kardon on my RG. So I've figured out the problems and can now make the disks. I am sure others probably have run into the same problems so I thought I'd just post a little cook book on what I discovered. I am using windows vista so that's what these instructions are for. Someone else might want to post the differences when using other operationg systems, like the mac, or even other windows versions, like windows 95.

Here's my cookbook...

1. The music must be in MP3 format. The HK player won't recognize WMA (windows media) format or any other.

2. You can rip the above format using the windows media player. Just select the options menu item under the "rip" tab and set it to MP3 before you start, otherwise you'll get the wrong format. Then put in your music CD and press the "start rip" button. ( by the way, rip means - copy the music from the cd to your computer )

3. Here's the step I was doing wrong. I was using the windows explorer to burn the mp3 disk, and getting the wrong format. You should use the windows media player. Under the "burn" tab select the options menu item. Set the playlist type to "M3U", not "WPL". Windows will default the playlist to "WPL" (windows play list), and your disk will not work in anything other than a windows player. If you set it to "M3U" the disk will work in all industry standard players, including the Harmon Kardon on your bike. (Trust Microsoft to change the industry standard!! Typical windows crap)

4. Also under the burn tab make sure you select "Data CD".

Burn the disk, when it's done it will automatically close it out, or finalize it. Then it will work in the HK. It's really nice, it shows the artist and song name on the display when the song starts. I really like it.

This has always worked for me....

I use Windows Media player.
I have "edited" / properties of each song and deleted the album cover.
You can also display what you want there while playing.
usind Genre,album name, song...etc
I burn mine as data and get as much as 150-175 songs per cd.
I do belive you need a CD R I've tried the CD RW with no luck, won't even reconize it
I also burn mine Slow 4x or 8x speed.
I had problem burning at higher speeds at first...
