I bought a 2012 CVO Utra Electra Glide about 2 months ago. I have only done 600 miles so far due to the weather but today when I was cleaning it I noticed the purple paint which is half the paint job has loads of scratches in it. It seems that it is getting scratched by anything including its lined cover. Has anyone else had the same problem with this paint Job? The colours are Wicked Sappire / Stardust Silver. The silver is fine, it is the Sappire that is the problem.
It's paint. Don't touch it. Don't put anything in contact with it. Buff out the scratches and add several coats of paint sealant or wax, and did I mention, DON'T TOUCH IT! Seriously, don't expect that 35,000$ cover to be scratch free. It's cloth, it gets dust in it, dust scratches. Harley ownership is a never ending quest for chrome and shine!
Harley paint is thick, you can rub out the scratches then use a polymere sealant wax like Zanio or meguires zxt, autopia is a good place to start on waxes and stuff for detailing.
I use the Scratch X as well. It does a good job of taking out the very fine scratches and swirls. As far as prevention, i would say don't cover it unless you absolutely have to. Anything that touches the paint or rubs on it will create marks. Also, make sure you wet the paint really good before you clean it.

I'll bet there are just as many swirls in the silver too. Problem is that dark colors show more, and you are just more aware. Autopia is good. I go to http://www.autogeek.net/ for all my supplies and free education on the forums. My trike is black and it used to be a chore keeping it free of scratches. I buffed all the scratches and swirls out with a Dual Action Orbital buffer with Griots Garage Polishes and then used their One Step Sealant. After that cured I then put two coats of Wolfgang Fuzion canuba wax as a final coat. Even in my garage under the bed sheets it picked up a little dust. I then used Pinnacle Liquid Crystal Waterless Wash Concentrate with Carnauba to remove the dust with a quality microfiber towel. The waterless wash is nice because it provides the lubricity to lift the dirt away from the paint as it becomes trapped in the towel. It also reduces the static electricity that attracts dust and dirt. I'll be damned it works. I use this after I'm done for the day.
Thank you so much all of you. I really appreciate you taking time to give me such good advice. I was really downhearted about it earlier but I am really happy that I will sort it out now.
Thank you...
In all seriousness, I have the 35,000$ cover as Well. It's folded up in a closet. I learned the hard (actually not that hard) way like you. My cvo is black candy crimson and charcoal slate. I have every conceivable scratch remover known to man in my arsenal. I also have a delco 4" buffer. With these I can remove nearly any scratch. My method is to keep a very thick coat of wax on the paint and then If I get scratches or swirls, chances are they are only as deep as the wax. Scratch x and s100 shine enhancing cleanser are my go-to first choices. My bike is 7 years old and has almost 40k miles on it and the paint still outshines most new bikes at the dealer. Best of luck keeping her shining!
