I have the dual controller along with the clip case which I clip to the nose of my Mustang seat. When I unplug I disconnect the power plug and take controller with me and don't have to worry about getting anything but my gloves and power plug put back to get going again. Of course when I come home, different story as I have all the gear so then it all comes apart and the controller gets left attached to the seat.
Picked up the Capt Itch gadget mount last month with the magnets on the back side and just place on tank beside the center console area. I just try to be sure tank and back of mount are clean and a good coat of wax to prevent scratches. I probably do not use the controller 10 times a year so this seemed OK.
Yeah? I don't think the permanent mount controller is an improvement? Ya would need to plug/unplug two cables each time ya get on or of instead of the one power cable with my dual controller mounted on my chaps. I just plug into the power port I mounted to the heat deflector and go. I have the controller right at my side and easy to adjust. No holes to drill and the controller moves easily between bikes. So what is the advantage of the permanent mount controller?
Still one connection once everything is installed. I just want to have a curly cord from my jacket to the panel mount on the bike. The panel mount part is easy. The controller is more of a challenge due to mounting issues. It seemed like a good idea to eliminate the dangling controller in favor of a tiny dial within easy view. I'd put it on the fairing lower section by the acc switch if ther was a free spot.
Not sure, I've never seen one, but it looks like by magnet built into the leather. Call and ask. There has been a thread or two on these and it sounds like they work well.
Another option. - the Firstgear wireless controller. 100% compatible. I velco'ed the receiver to my liner. It has only 1 power wire to attach to bike. I used the standard pig tail off the battery and it comes out at the front of the seat.
The dual transmitter is wireless. I made a mount with some rare earth magnets and leather. Then I velco'ed the transmitter to that. It sits on my tank right in front of me. Easy to see and ctl
My $0.02. I like the dual controller on me as if I forget to unplug, it unplugs gracefully. My winter textile jacket has a belt and it sits on that belt on my left side. My winter leather jacket has a decent pocket which I can clip the dual controller pouch to when wearing that jacket. In the past I have put a black strap around my right thigh and just clipped it there. That was not very convenient even though I thought it would be.
From my experience, which is with several different motorcycles, I found that adjusting it was easiest when it was clipped to the belt on my left side front on my textile all weather jacket, second easiest when clipped to my leather jacket pocket, and a bit of a pain when located eslewhere.
In the future, if I am wearing my leather jacket, I will simply take a spare heavy black belt and place it around my winter leather jacket just to hold the dual controller. The reason is that it is so easy to reach up and roll the heat up or down a little with out looking. It also keeps all the wires away from the bike.
[I used the gerbing permanent mount controls and put the ***** in the fairing and ran the cables in the tray under the tank console. If you go that way watch out where you decide to drill because the plastic is thicker in some places and you drill the thick part the little lights that come on with the heat on (wired off of the reostats) won't be as easy to see as they could be because they pokw through quite far enough. Don't ask how I know]
Wifey is out of town with our camera so I can't show a pic but I drilled at about two o'clock to the outside of the fuel and volt gauges, it seems the fairing is thinner between the Speedo and Tach and the volt and fuel, still about two o'clock but to the inside of fuel and volt
I was thinking I might try mounting it in the door of the left lower fairing. Not sure how handy it would be to adjust though.
I just sat on the bike to consider the possibility of mounting the controller in the lower fairing door. I think it's brilliant. It's easy enough to reach. It's visible from the seat. It's a clean installation since everything is inside the lower and I'm only drilling the door, not some permenant part of the bike. It's not exposed to weather. I think that's what I'll do. Thanks
