Two RGs both with crate motors are for fun a Heritage for my wife and a Cvo Ultra for riding were ever that were ever has been from here to the west coast, Fla, the east coast just doesnt matter as long as iam in the wind

Probley the second question which one do you like the most well i like them all but the 53 Pan would probley take a special place in my heart because it was nothing but frame and engine when i brought it home, Ill never get my money back on any of them but thats not the point they make me happy and i love to ride when you have to add up then honeslty you just missed the point of what you probley set out to do enjoy your life .
Ill leave it at this just this year alone i buried 5 great Brothers i have rode with for over 25 yrs i have 0 Regrets.
Thumper thanks for sharing. You really put it in perspective, life is short so do the things you enjoy and don't count how much you spent you can't put a price on doing something you love. Very nice collection you have and I thought I was lucky to have ONE at age 38!

You could spend $7-$8000 on a wore out junk car or truck that needs work or spend the same on the bike that your proud to own and love to ride. Or put all your money in the bank for someone else to **** away when your DEAD. Have a nice life....

every single bike I have had I have lost my *** on when I sold them.

I have kept a mental rough idea where I am at.

I really wish I could control myself on the mods....just can't seem to do it.

I've spent most of my money on Booze, Broads and Bikes...... The rest I just wasted.
You could worry about saving all your money, but I doubt if your widow's next husband will thank you for it.

Counting costs is futile.

My motorcycle is mine. When I thought I wrote it off, I was sick thinking about the money in the motor. It was a $11,000 bill when the 120R was installed. That was the 120R, SuperTrapp, and the Rivera Primo Clutch. Had Russel tune it as the dealer didn't... Then the motor failure, toss in another $4k for the rebuild. It IS AWESOME, but pricy. $15k in the motor alone.

Now it is on a tech lift with a frame swap. [ha ha] I'm getting black and chrome agitators in lieu of the tourpak.

Maybe I'd leave the next one alone... But I've got 4000 km on the fresh motor. The tranny kicks I'm going DD7. I like black, so I don't have an expensive paint job, but the painted inner was a little. Chrome front end was a bit, but I didn't go crazy.

I dunno, sure you could put it into retirement [401k - USA, RRSP - Canada] but hell, after the accident in September, I MIGHT NOT MAKE IT TILL THEN. Big eye opener really. So I'll save some, and enjoy life. I'll keep my girl Christine [yep, I named it.] as long as possible. The wife has an 07 Deluxe, and we might keep it, or look for a touring motorcycle for her.

Harley stock goes up because of people like me...

Can't take it with you, and when you're dead, know one knows for sure...

Regardless - Ride safe, have fun, and enjoy it. I hate to see a used motorcycle with 500 miles on it. I figure the spark didn't light for the previous owner. I wish everyone could enjoy it as I do. Have a great 2013!

Then don't. Save all your money and put it in your casket when you die. I will continue to spend mine on things I enjoy whether you approve or not. I am very happy to do so. I enjoy the feeling I get from doing my own upgrades.
I agree.
Why is it as soon as you upgrade your bike or even worse, want to keep it clean, the ride ***** come out.
"I dont have time to clean or upgrade Im too busy riding"
I have changed a lot on my bike, I keep it spotless and I work at 2 jobs but I still manage to ride around 15000 miles from April to October.
I have kept a file on what I have spent, and it is a lot but I'm not going to get into mine is bigger than yours. I have it for insurance reasons.
Even though I have spent this, it is only a tiny drop in the bucket compared to what it costs to own a airplane, which I don't anymore .
You think harley parts are expensive, go buy aviation parts.

I just purchased a new motor for my 06 SG from Star Racing (3rd motor in three years) -- they don't give discounts - could have got another bike for cost of the motor

That is about $ 835.00 per month for 40 months. I could vacation in Hawaii for five days every month for 40 months for that amount of money. This is one hell of a love a affair with a machine.

My question is; is this about what others have spent for the same period of time on their bikes?

If you seriously had to sit down and think about this, you don't need a motorcycle.
