Default Which way do you use?

I'm wondering how many pull the lower shock bolts to remove the rear axle / wheel as opposed to removing the mufflers? Seems like it would be soooo much easier to just remove the lower shock bolts and let the swing arm drop as shes being jacked up?

It depends on your exhaust, mine are slip-ons and come of easily so I always opt to not to mess with the shocks bolts. It is six one way half a dozen the other way.......either way works very easily.....up to you Sir.

Just curious. I've not done it by removing the shock bolts on this bike yet. Seems just as easy with an additional benefit....Grabbing and twisting the mufflers to get them off in my experience usually leads to scratching them up from twisting etc...even when they are clean. Mine don't come off with just an easy turn and twist lol.

I do it by removing the shock bolts, much easier IMO, especially since I have extended bags where you notice if the pipes are off by a 1/4" or less.

Lower shock bolts- they are right there, and although grade 8 bolts should last- this is a time to look at them- stretched threads for one, should be replaced- nuts too.

this also leaves the air lines intact

the torca muffler clamps are 'one-use" and should be replaced- I tend to get a couple of uses from mine*- but there is a cost to replacing these when a less expensive option is there.

Mike

* torque to the low end of the range the first time, each subsequent time, torque a few pounds more.
if the muffler or header pipes get "egged" you can get a die to reform them, or run by a muffler shop

If your exhaust is a 2-1 you don't have to do any of that. Just Jack it up, remove the axle, and remove the tire/wheel. Another advantage to a 2-1

Had my exhaust off for replacement so that made it easy. Next time I'm going to try removing the shock.

Removing the lower shock bolts just seems much easier. Then as you jack it with the tire on the floor and when you get to the right height it seems as though it would be easier to get the belt off and just roll the tire out. It seems as though it would also be more obvious when you have the needed clearence without having to play around.

I do not do either. I just remove the bolts to the mufflers, pull em out slightly and the axle will come out. A lot easier and less time.

I've always pulled the bottom bolt off the shock. Just seems like less hassle to me to do it that way, then I don't even have to mess with the exhaust.
