I just have a minor question regarding my air cleaner cover. I have the Vance & Hines Naked O2 Air Cleaner with Stock cover. I thouht I would be OK with the stock cover but as it turns out, I'm Not. I ride in pretty much all types of weather and am concerned if I remove the stock cover and just put on a trim plate, is there a concern for water on/in the exposed filter elimate when I ride in the rain or even if the bike is resting in a parking lot in the rain?
Ive wondered how much water actually gets inhailed into the intake in a heavy downpour. If water was to be ingested, Im pretty sure the motor would cough or stall. Many riders run around with a rain sock that looks like a panty-hose material with good results.
A picture of what you have would help. I have the SE Heavy Breather and the rain sock don't do squat. Keeping the element well oiled does. What you describe does not sound like it has a filter ???
I have the Fuel Moto AC with just a round insert, so the filter is open. I've ridden in torrential downpours, no issues. Also the filter is oiled, so water tends to bead off.
I have the Kuryakin High Five Mach II Air Cleaner, which has an exposed filter element. I was concerned about your very question, and called Kuryakin and talked to their tech on two occasions. Both of them stated that as long as the filter is oiled as instructed, there should be no issues with water ingress.
