Just a heads up for those traveling I-95 in Jacksonville, FL: JSO definitely has lasers and were running an active speed trap today about 10 miles south of I-295. One cop standing in the trees with a Laser Gun and 4 of his buddies in hot standby about a half mile down the road.

Understand this is a sidebar to the OP's question but thought it was pertinent based on the discussion of Laser use and I-95/Jax being a thoroughfare to Daytona......

Valentine has never claimed to pay any tickets but some of the junker
detector makers did. Instant on will always defeat a radar detector if
it is targeting you. The best detectors however have terrific detection
range and targets up the road will often give some warning.

There are no commercially available radar jammers that actually work.

Laser is also instant on and deadly unless a quality active jammer is installed.
There are a number of factors that will determine the effective range
of a Lidar gun.

1. Flat black is your best friend. No chrome, or light colours.
2. Headlights and reflective licence plates are bad.
3. Is the lidar tripod mounted or hand held. Hand held is difficult to control
if the target vehicle is a long way up the road.

There are some coatings available for headlights that will absorb the
902nm light from the laser. This will reduce the range for lockon.

Young ones do. Us older ones tend to consider rain to be "serious violation weather".

What they said about the Radar jammers being illegal in all states, I assume this is due to interference to other electronic devices hence FCC's denial. I have the Crusader radar detector unit on my Harley now, when it senses something it displays it on the barely viewable display and I get a small blue blinky LED light that blinks faster depending on signal strength. (kind of worthless IMHO compared to a V1 and remote display)

Now, Laser jammers DO work but is dependent on your state as to legality of them. Texas recently outlawed them, prior to that I have NEVER received a laser ticket and have been targeted MANY times. All were solid locks as determined by my Valentine1 and the Officers confused reaction when I passed him... Now not all laser jammers are created equal, and at that the transponders seem to have limited useful lifespans, $$$ periodic maintenance replacement items... Now if they were still legal in my state you bet I would still be running them! What I did notice is that in rain/fog/sprinkles, etc that I have observed NO Officer running Laser enforcement, guess that the water particles somehow interrupt the beam?

As with any speed enforcement, you have rules to follow. Line of sight is usually paramount for a system to work, Laser needs a line and usually a distance to effectively work properly. Any radar left on can be detected from a good distance with the V1 so that's not a problem but, the problem are the new Audi cars with the parking sensors since they emit a Ka signature that imitates a LEO Radar pretty effectively... The POP radar is IMHO more of a pain in the ***, my last ticket was one because I thought the officer wasn't running anything and then ZAP... Some LE Officers know a thing of two about using their equipment as well, when your up against these experienced Officers then you get a ticket and learn something new if speeding at the time of observance.

I don't think Texas has "camera" speed traps or tickets by air.. in my area anyways...

Is a daytime running light REQUIRED to be on during daylight? If not, a motorcycle has a much smaller signature than a car and tougher for a laser to pick up.

V1 if what I've used for over a decade.

No laser in NorCal that I'm aware of.

You obviously didn't know how to speed without getting caught. A detector is a tool, not a guarantee.

You still have to be diligent, picking your locations, etc.

I've been driving over 20k miles a year for about 15 years, "almost always" or "quite often" above the limit outside of residential and have gotten 2 speeding tickets? Plus demeanor can help a lot too.

Cool

Bought my first Escort(radar detector) 30 odd.....well nevermind how long ago. It was great at the time and saved me multiple times and many $$$. Times have changed however and the opposition has evolved. They will always have the upper edge tech wise. Anything that truly works, i.e. jammers, is or will be made, illegal. As stated earlier, instant on radar or laser will get you if you are: 1) the fastest vehicle on the road at the time, 2) not paying attention, or 3) both!

As has already been stated, your single best defense is to not be the fastest on the road. Next, pay attention to the brake lights in front of you especially around curves and over hills where they like to ambush you. I like this one best because it implies that you actually are....paying attention! I drive a lot for work and see far too many drivers "zoned out"...usually going at or under the speed limit in the passing lane. These people are at best a nuisance, and could be your worst nightmare. Preaching to the choir, I know!! Sorry for the rant....I now relinquish my soapbox!!

As to the OP's question...save your money. Keep your eyes open and RIDE SAFE!

Joe, I wasn't lecturing you, nor anyone else for that matter. I was merely sharing info on the forum for the benefit of all that might be interested and read this thread. I never assumed you were advocating for jammers at all. I just would rather see folk not waste their money on the snake oil that companies have out on the market. I apologize if you misunderstood my reply and took it as a personal attack. I assure you it was not. I honestly don't even write many speeding tickets at all. I have a philosophy on that. I won't be a hypocrite. In most cases you have to be going double the posted limit to get a speeder from me.

Negative. Something in the fine print about not in excess of 15 MPH over. I ended up having to go to driver's safety course to keep my license. I was still fairly young at the time and it was then I learned driving legally is a privilege, not a given right.

My excuse at the time was I was traveling a lot and had to be at meetings on a regular basis. Police don't care to hear your excuses. And no disrespect to LEO's but why do they bother to ask why you are speeding if it is not going to influence the decision?

And somebody mentioned bikes have a lesser chance of being picked up by radar ? I was having a friendly conversation with a Texas state trooper a few years ago and asked him about that. He assured me bikes are not any less likely to get hit with radar than a semi.

Cell phone jammer is what I want.
Anyone got any info on one of those that they care to post or how to build one perhaps?
