For both EFI and Carbed engines, H-D owner's manuals state:
The engine should be allowed to run slowly for 15-30 seconds. This will allow the engine to warm up and let oil reach all surfaces needing lubrication. Failure to comply can result in engine damage. (00563b)

----------------------------------------------------------------------- By comparison, here is all the owner's manual says for an EFI engine.
Press the starter button to start the motorcycle.
When the engine has started, you can operate your motorcycle as you normally would after raising the jiffy stand.
I have a co-worker that starts his bike and as soon as the starter stops and the bike is fired he immediately puts it in gear and is off on his way!
I noticed while riding behind him last year when we took our trip to Tennessee his bike is beginning to smoke and it's a 2005 model.
I warned him about how he starts it and takes off on his bike for several years but he would never listen to me!
Start the bike, check lights (turn and brakes) both sides. Put on necessary riding gear, kick tires, turn camera on and set, select music for the ride, back out to driveway, ride up driveway about 25 yards, look both ways and then off and riding.
