A few of us were talking at our coffee meeting the other day and one asked me if I roll my bike out of the garage periodically and warm it up? I said it's had Sta-Bil run through it and it's on the tender, that's all it needs while stored. They said you should warm it up to operating temp every week or so. Should I be warming her up and then sticking it back in a cold garage, (up in Canada it's cold). Seems pointless to me.

That's not 'warm-up' -- that's 4play!!
I warm up until I can feel warmth beneath the head which tells me the oil is warm, circulating, and she's ready to go...

In my neighborhood I can't let it idle for a long period of time...........I fire it up, sit there for about 30sec. and then let it coast down a small hill to the main road. I take it easy with the rpms for about 1/2 mile, then I ease into my riding. I don't get on it, twist the wick and and blast down the road.

I wrote an article a few years ago and researched this.

Running the bike like that does NOT get the entire bike to normal temps like riding it. Moisture does build up in the crankcase, etc. All the byproducts of combustion won't burn out like they normally do when riding.

I also had a couple of HD techs (who I do trust) verify this when they saw my article in the newsletter.

I kinda cringe an shake my head when i see some dummy hop on his scooter fire it up dump it in gear and take off haulin *** .....its his money but i respect the equipment more than your average joe cuz im a machinist/mechanic .I work in the nuclear power industry the emergency generators on the reactor coolant pumps are required to go from zero to full bore in less than 30 sec and they have heaters that keep the oil hot and we still lose one from time to time.

Let the idle settle, don't rev it, and hit the road (my bikes are fuel injected). When I had to kickstart a shovel I let the bike settle in for 60 seconds before taking off.

I've got one of Jason's fans (btw work great) and my PowerVision mounted on the handlebars. I start my scoot w/ fans off, idle while I put ear plugs and helmet on, back out of garage, and then go down about 1/2 mi. gravel road to main road. By the time I get there, the engine temp is about 160 or so. I ride for another minute, and as soon as I see my E.T. get to 180 on the Power Vision, I flip on the fans and away I go. '11 RKC really seems to like this routine.
